Critics Call Kendrick Lamar A Hypocrite For Headlining The Super Bowl | My Thoughts

Rolling Stone and Akademiks say it’s hypocritical for Kendrick Lamar to perform at the Super Bowl because of how the NFL treated Kaepernick and Kendrick’s brand as a “savior.” I disagree. Here’s why.

  1. It's such a revealing critique. They're essentially demanding that if you care about anything you resign yourself to cultural irrelevance. Kendrick is too good for the Superbowl but he has every right to be there. If we can make room for vapid spectacle on one of the world's largest stages, we can make room for whatever Kendrick is cooking.

  2. I am standing with us. I stopped watching the NFL. I stopped watching Vlad. I am choosing us over everything. Kap wasnt trying to not be in football player, he just was trying to bring attention to the hypocrisy of the us, but like you I started back watching it

  3. Kaepernick was never protesting against the NFL; he was protesting against police brutality. We were the ones protesting because the league blackballed him. He sued the NFL, but his goal to continue playing in the league never changed. But the circumstances behind the protest haven't changed: he still wants to play, and they still want to keep him out. I was boycotting before the Kaep situation and I have since. But after about eight years away, I think I'm ready to go back. Especially since the Lions are good now.

Kendrick has embraced the hypocrisy of himself, he doesn't want to be a savior. I appreciate that about him. We shouldn't need a perfect messenger to encourage people to stand up for something

  4. Even if Kendrick was carrying a messiah figure as his image, what about that would even contradict with choosing to perform at the superbowl? Wouldn't it be truly messianic to take your message and perform it on the biggest stages? Of course, Kendrick is not a messiah figure, nor do his fans think he is one. We heard Mr Morale. We witnessed Kendrick choosing to be a Family Man above all else. I'm just curious, why would it be hypocritical for a messianic figure to perform at the superbowl? For that to even be true, the person in question would have to do so by relinquishing his message. But that's not the point these people are making. So I'm just confused.

  5. We could really do with a lot less of AK's voice on certain things honestly though. It's the moment to drop isn't bad, he shouldn't be headlining the Superbowl. If Drake was asked to headline and he agreed, AK would be Shouting "W" at the top of his lungs. on sum "WE BIG AS THE SUPERBOWL"

  6. Before I even start watching this video, let me just say this to anyone calling Kenny a "hypocrite" for headlining the Superbowl: how the hell else is he going to get his message out into the world?! Especially on the biggest stage in America! Some people out here are quite delusional.

  7. This really is KD vs. the industry… So many low vibrational fans on Drakes side, too. It’s all about rejection and introspection, but why would expect anything more?🤷🏽‍♀️
Idc how they close to spin it. I prefer an artist over an entertainer in Hip Hop.

  8. He has every right to be there, and im not even much of a Kendrick fan.

Some Kendrick fans kind of annoy me though. Can get a bit a55 licky. Kendrick isnt a saviour and he isn't a conscious rapper. Not liking Kendrick's music doesnt mean someone is less hip-hop and Kendrick also isnt Some kind of underground underdog. This is a guy who was on a Taylor Swift song lol. Its ok to like a mainstream rapper that does commercial s£%/ I still respect the guy.

  9. Kaepernick himself wants to be in The Super Bowl. He’s not anti-NFL. He STILL doing tryouts for NFL Teams. And I don’t watch ANY sports, so I don’t care. All the critics… they didn’t say that when he was with Dre at the SB. They didn’t say that when he was with Beyonce. As long as they don’t try to censor his message, Kendrick supposed to convey his message on the biggest platform he can put it on.

  10. To clarify the position; no one is saying it's wrong to watch the Superbowl. People are saying KENDRICK, who is pointing the finger left and right to people who are not consistent and who are not living how HE feels people should live, can't be flip flopping.

You can't spend your time attacking others for their moral shortcomings and then when we look at you, you have inconsistent morals. If he didn't act like he was the authority for moral behavior all the time, no one would care what he does.

That's the thing about throwing stones in a glass house. If you spend your time judging people, you will be judged. And there you go. In this situation, people judge him.

  11. Wouldnt some of the lyrics the single point to him being against corporate in hiphop… Even the theme of the album to pimp a butterfly. From that perspective. Your talking about tearing it down but you still collaborating with an institution that previously didnt stand for the beliefs of your culture…

Will he be able to sing the song that says F the police…

  12. Kendrick is most definitely a hypocrite.

Everything he does going forward is going to be watched like a hawk.

Because of the Drake comparison. Difference is drake been used being compared, dissed and hated for 15 years now.

Let's see how Kendrick deals with it.

  13. Due to the fact that the Super Bowl will be taking place during Black History Month, I am certain that Kendrick will perform “Alright”! “And we hate po po when they shoot us dead in the street for sho”. If that’s not paying homage to Colin Kapernick and black culture, I don’t know what will!
Thanks for recommending “The Spook who sat by the door”!

  14. kendrick’s critics remind me of people who criticize others for participating in capitalism when people (rightfully) criticize the capitalism system. like how is an individual supposed to compete against a system?

  15. He decimated one of the industry’s cash cows and then declared war on the rest of the industry, we gotta be ready for the bullshit, the smear campaign has already begun, but now it’s intensified, we already know what to watch out for from the song he dropped, we know how far money will go to protect its profits, despite the danger, Kendrick is still taking this fight to one of the biggest stages, respect🫡

  16. 6 words: Bible thumpers tend to be hypocrites

They dont really read the bible, otherwise they would know its fiction.
For some reason they cant see their god is a walking contradiction.
Thats the mirror image of life they are depicting.
Cause if Christ knew the mission (the story implies he didnt),
then it wasn't crucifixion, but in the mind of a Christian…

Lets just say if he came back to life, the sacrifice was missing.

Kendrick represents a long line of talented but confused and self righteous artists,
who worship everything they personally claim to be against.
Yet they're usually unaware because they dont really know their "holy books"
    nor history period.

Promoting a doctrine that claims its divinely ordained for blacks worldwide to suffer,
while ALSO claiming to fight against this suffering on behalf of said people…

Hypocrite through and through, we also know Dre history but…

This is why Kendrick can feel comfortable working with Metro Boomin who likes em young,
but turn around and demonize Drake for the same thing.
A walking contradiction IS what you become when you're molded in god's image
