Crazy solo mission to an abandoned Soviet aircraft carrier

🎁📚Check out my new coffeetable book with a lot of military installations, ships, industrial places and other amazing abandoned places: https://exploringtheunbeatenpath.myonline.store/ 🎁📚

Today I post the main mission of my trip to China: the massive abandoned Soviet aircraft carrier Minsk, the second aircraft carrier or ‘heavy aviation cruiser’ of the Kiev class. The Minsk was laid down in 1972 and got commissioned in 1978. The Minsk was saved from scrap in 1998 and opened as a theme park in 2000. The ship is abandoned since 2016, but reconversion started a few days after my visit.

  1. 8:00 It is a Mig 27 – M, a Mig 23 has a pointed round nose, the Mig 27 has a flattened nose to make it easier to see ground targets. But it's not bad, still a great video, thanks for uploading it

  3. Thank you so much for taking the challenge to sneak on board a great ship of the Soviet Navy. Its amazing the Russian made a multi mission ship. Where the US Navy uses other ships the DDGs & Cruiser to do some of the rolls as they surround the US carriers. MAN the manpower it must have taken to fill all these defenses 😊 you ROCK my friend
It would have been fun to be an observer on board her in her time, just watching her operate. Some of those spaces must have been for senior officers and Captain quarters 😊😊

The fact that you had a second rope wasn't luck; it was proper planning.
AWAYS double up on mission-critical gear. Lose a tripod? Meh – carry on. Run out of rope? Mission over.
    Bravely well done, Sir.

  5. I went on tne Minsk while it was at Minskworld, near Schenzen. It was pretty cool. Did you natice they used images from Band of Brothers in some of their dioramas. Not a single mention of the Flying Tigers. They also simulated attacks on Nimitz class aircraft carriers, those big missiles rotated! there were lots of aircraft on deck, Much of the equipment was vacuum tube technology. The museum was really cool too! sorry to see the old girl in such sad shape. Im surprised the Chinese hasn't restored it since their own carriers are POS!

  6. That isn't a Mig-23 by the way. You can tell because there is no radar in the nose. That is a Mig-27M it looks like. Same body shape and design, but it's a strike fighter instead of a fighter.

  7. hey! amazing video, i just wanted to let you know that the jet isn't a MiG-23 but a MiG-27 which was basically a ground attack MiG-23, you can tell the difference due to the nose of the aircraft which wasn't made to hold a radar but a rangefinger.
