Could the Toronto Raptors trade Pascal Siakam? Plus, Jalen McDaniels signs & a depth chart Update

In Episode 1437, Sean Woodley goes solo to to discuss the possibility of Pascal Siakam getting traded as a follow up to Fred VanVleet’s departure in free agency, the signing of Jalen McDaniels, and what to make of the Raptors’ depth chart as it stands. Off the top Sean digs into the latest rumours about Siakam from Sportsnet Michael Grange, and discusses why the Atlanta Hawks, while being the most likely trade partner, might still be tough to strike a deal with considering the outside factors at play for both teams. Are there any other potential Siakam suitors that could join the mix if in fact the Raptors are gearing up to move their best player? Or is it more likely Siakam ends up extending with the Raptors and sticking around? Next, Sean discusses the addition of Jalen McDaniels on a 2-year, $9 million contract and what his addition means for the bench, as well as whether his addition could stand to increase the odds of Chris Boucher or Precious Achiuwa getting moved in a trade for guard help. Lastly, Sean assesses the Raptors’ depth chart as it stands and digs into why the departure of Fred VanVleet’s pull up shooting threatens to render the Raptors’ offense as one of the worst in basketball, even if the defense figures to be as stout as ever.

  1. I think we have the best package available for Dame: O.G., Trent Jr., Young, Porter Jr., Boucher, 2 picks, 2 swaps for Dame and Nurkic. Portland gets young players, including one they already covet and fits their timeline, picks, expiring contracts, AND they get off of Nurkic's money. Even Boucher's contract declines over time.

We would still be 9 deep: Lillard, Dick, Barnes, Siakam, Poeltl, Schroder, McDaniels, Achiuwa, Nurkic. even deeper if Flynn or Koloko hit.

  2. Trade og or pascal and few picks for dame would work. Og has always had injury problems. His value is all time high. Same with pascal and he has improved but he is a liability in the playoffs. Problem is we don’t have a star on the raising. Scotty might be that but it’s tough to tell how good he will be.

  3. Pascal, who isn't a good 3 pt shooter, has laggy defense since the groin injury and fails to create space to get his shot off in 4th quarters is going to age gracefully? How do you figure? He's gotta go so we don't lose another asset for nothing and he allows us to get a good starter along with bench pieces. Let's not make this mistake again.

  4. this offfense was crap to watch last season, and I can live without watching fred play again. I'm gonna give the lineup they have now a chance before judging. But its not the end of the world if we suck next season. The problem with this team is it lacks talent, and the raptors need to restock the talent pool. Its going to take a few years for this to happen. Thats just the hard reality that most impatient fans are unwilling to accept.

The record in the next two to three seasons may be bad. All we can hope is that the raptors draft and develop the talent over that time. Next year we likely wont have our pick, I want to see koloko, precious, gradey , and flynn can some signficant run.

This needs better guard play badly, and fred was never that answer. We need to draft better talent that can compete in todays nba.

  5. Sean – agree with what you’re saying about Fred . (very) imperfect player but leaves a gigantic hole nonetheless (ball handling, volume 3s/pull up 3s, pick and roll etc) .

This team as currently constituted will be terrible in the half court – borderline unwatchable . If they enter the season as is , they will be good enough to confer our FRP to SA but bad enough not to escape the lottery.

Time to $@&t or get off the pot

Either do a Scotty -dame trade for a two year chip or bust window (OG plus picks isn’t getting it done) or trade pascal for our PG of the future (Bufkin)

I’m not overreacting in Scottie or think he’s a bust . Development isn’t linear but also isn’t guaranteed . There’s no guarantee he becomes a Giannis type MVP calibre candidate . There’s not even a guarantee he becomes a multi all NBA player like pascal – he could very well be a Rudy Gay/Anthony Wiggins type player conceivably

We currently have pascal in his prime : either take your shot with him or commit to the Scottie timeline 💯. Multiple timelines only works in marvel movies

  6. I'm the president and CEO of the Kobe Bufkin fanclub. I was sad to see that Kobe signed his rookie contract yesterday (July 3). So if he he cannot be traded for 6 months (?), then that would be Jan. 3rd. If we are still talking about trading Pascal in January, you will probably be able to find me in a lunatic asylum. Please help me escape!!!

  7. The argument is that we were screwed by FVV and got nothing for him in return. Should have traded him sooner. This is a business. Luckily FVV didn’t want to return to the Raptors and glad he found another team. We are not losing much that can’t be replaced.

  8. Toronto is not getting some multiple first round picks and multiple recent lottery pick players lol. He’s a one year rental that then can, and likely, will go do whatever he wants. Masai has zero leverage and his greedy dumbass is not going to get jack squat in the end. Raptors fans are so delusional lol

  9. Raptors going into the season with Pascal OG and GTJ on expiring contracts doesn't give me good vibes based on the record of this front office since the championship. It is entirely possible that only 1 or 0 of them even resign with nothing coming back. Pessimistic view but it's basically in line with what's been happening.
