Hey house lovers and explorers! Today I take you through an old historic cottage “Tarawera” that was situated down in the Port Adelaide districts and was in the same family for 112 years.
Sadly the home is gone now but I was able to uncover a lot of history and add it to the video. I was also able to find cool old items as well that lead me to some very interesting and enjoyable research.
Hope you all enjoy the explore. Cheers for watching 🙂

The envelopes you found were actually old telegram envelopes by the looks of them. All this stuff would have just been tossed away during the demolition, great work Paul in saving this stuff. Btw good work re the butterfly 😊 and one of the best explores
This didn't need to happen.
This video was the best Ive seen, so much work has gone into the research which help paint the picture of this family, a family whose legacy was so significant it was immortalised in a boat museum…surely there family home deserved the same fate of restoration rather than demolition…. I'm glad you finally got there to made a historical record and find those amazing treasures…sad the ceiling rose which are hand made by a master plaster trained specifically are being demolished along with the pressed tin ceiling another hand crafted item….
this was an awesome explore, the history, the house and all those interesting items you recovered, thanks
Great video Paul – and brilliant detective work 😊
Christmans-tide. like sea tide
Thank you Paul for saving all the memorabilia from such a very beautiful home that can live on in our memories. This is why you will always be my favorite house explorer. You always are looking for the history of these beautiful homes.
I live in PA&E Council you no longer have to get demolition applications anymore
Beautiful done Paul so much history love it. The letter was one of my favorite items. Thank you so much you make exploring so, so special. When I seen the empty lot that was so sad but you have it on film and that's such a blessing.
2am, Melbourne, stumbled upon this. How fantastic ty. 👌
I want you to know that I just love your explores. I long to see Adelaide. Thank you from my heart for sharing and for just being yourself when presenting these videos making them so much more interesting
This is one of the most fascinating and enjoyable explores thanks Paul, where you captured the last of an old Adelaide suburban home, filled with many discarded treasures. Each item that you rescued from demolition, depicts a story of days gone by. From the spinning toy, match boxes, post cards, letter to the 1917 Florin Coin, were all equality brilliant finds. 😊
Paul, this is my all time favorite video! Loved the history lesson as well, really made it special. I'm 74 an can appreciate the simple toys, the spinning top an marbles were my favorite. Thanks for all you do . Hugs
Sad ending.
Saw a nice voltage spike come out of that light switch when you picked it up!
Good place for metal detecting!
I imagine you would have quite a connection of finds.
Maybe a dedicated vid of your most interesting finds would be interesting.
I reckon this was one of your best so far
Hello Paul like you said you wished you got to that house sooner but you wouldn't have found all those Treasures I like all of them but what stands out the most is the Christmas card the letter the spinning top and I thought it was pretty cool that the razor blade was never opened all the matchbox and the tobacco tin like always you always give us 100% thoroughly all those details and research that you do I thank you so much for all that you do really appreciate it and thanks for freeing that butterfly take care love from upstate New York❤😊
Maybe you can aviod jail time Paul by NOT taking my advice of keeping a crowbar with you to pry up floors on future explores.
(Carrying burglar tools, a chargeable offense here in the US.)
👍😉
Butterflies are meant to be free. 😊
Absolutely LOVE when you add the history of the home.
would be hot in summer So sad to see the end of this era. Love the bull nose veranda, thank for getting there. Whirlybird bird would have kept the temperature down! Having no home now I could have live here. My dad smoked Havelock Ready Rub. Wow. Thanks to the intro we understand the loss. People collect calendars. 🙌
All of your funds✅

Butterflies are meant to represent spirits of the departed as are dragonflies i was told this when i was a kid and totally believe it so you never know
Love this all the history you have literally dug up. It's remarkable that the home stayed original for all these years, I bet you have quite a collection of 'Under floor items. From other explorations also. Thanks for sharing this. Cheers, MM 🙂
Thank you, Paul, for all the great work you do. So sad that our history is being lost, one building at a time.
Excellent.
When you can add the history it makes the home come alive! Thank you for setting the butterfly free, you have “good heart”. I enjoyed seeing the spinning top. I had a similar style one when I was a little girl ( I’ll be 80 the end of this year 😳)! It had a round top piece that you put onto the stem and turned it till you couldn’t turn it anymore. Then there was a small nob on the top piece that you pushed down and the top would spin madly away and sometimes even bounce! My cat loved playing with it as much as I did. I had that top for many years, but I don’t know what became of it. Thank you Paul for reminding me of a fun memory! Glad you were able to save bits and pieces of this family’s history. Not being from Australia I’m wondering if you know what the meaning might be of “ Tarawera”? Have a good week and thank you 👍🏻😊🦋
This has to be one of my fave videos. Loved the history.Thank you for the work you do to keep the memories of these beautiful old homes. So sad to see them disappearing. Glad you got to explore under those floorboards and to find treasures. Some over 100 years old, wow! Wonder what will be found under the dirt in n 100 years from now? SIM cards, iPads and iPhones.
Hi paul, l enjoyed your great work on this beautiful old girl. You are a real natural. Cheers deb
Incredible work Paul; again thanks so much for the work you do in preserving history through your research videography. This one touches deep especially since I live in an older home in a surrounding suburb. Well done.
hi paul i have always liked the history you present of these much older styled cottage homes and going back a centuary ago all the old items you found are what i love seeing and being a past of our once history tobacco tins, match boxes spin tops all these kinds of things i would say would be great in a museum of heritage styled past times of what once was of how our products begun and the old style cottage i really liked it really was a time capsule would have been amazing if you caught before the selvaging process but love the representation you gave of this beautiful once cottage paul hope your going well mate and as always look forward to your next explore.

That CHRISTMAS CARD IS 109 YEARS OLD, WOW love all of your videows, JUST BE SAFE Out there,,
Fascinating. So well researched. 😊
Even in the late 1960s and early 70s us kids referred a twenty cent pice as two bob great old house pity it got destroyed
I love all of this video. Thank you so much for looking up the history of the items you found. I wonder how the larger pieces got under there. Absolutely love the blue wallpaper with the bow's on l would have that on my wall any day.
Very interesting episode.
I just looked up "Christmastide" that was mentioned on the greetings card, as I wondered what it meant. "Christmastide, also known as Christide, is a season of the liturgical year in most Christian churches".
Loved this video! Thank you for sharing, great way to start my day.
Your presentation throughout this video was fantastic. Thank you for all the extra research you included, loved hearing the extra nuggets of info and seeing your precious mementos. What great history. If the house had floors you wouldn’t have been so lucky so I hope that helped ease your disappointment. The closing image of the empty plot was bitter sweet and left me with lots of different emotions including leaking eyes. Very impactful. Well done.
Grew up in the Port knew straight away where this was. Still a few of these cottages about in the back streets. Love those old freeze and fry homes
So sad to see a home that was built to last through everything being torn down, probably to be replaced with something that'll struggle to last a decade.
Maybe someone smoked under the house
We're you able to keep the artefacts,?
Looks like someone was trying to hide their smoking habit 😮 , and that post card from 1915 wow, looks like it fell behind the mantle , thank God u went through there when u did or those treasures would have gone in a skip 😢 . Again another great video ❤
