Coma 2

Coma is a true story. Richard Hammond
crashed a car when he was making Top gear
and went into a coma. When he was lying in
a hospital bed fundamentally slowly dying
in his mind he was having a great time walking
in his favourite place Buttermere in the lake district.
He was in fact making his way to a specific tree
halfway up a hill. (The tree actually exists)
When he got to the tree, he felt that rather
than go on, he should sit and rest against it.
Meanwhile, the doctors were telling his wife
there was nothing more they could do for
Richard and that he was going to die.
She asked if she could shout at him, really
shout at him. The doctor said she could
so she went into his room and screamed at him
he miraculously woke up. Buttermere dissolved
and he was back in hospital. When he tells the story
he suggests that if he had passed the tree he would
have died.
In regard to the track. This was my first attempt to record the song I wrote about this subject called Coma. It was to be a mini opera with speaking and singing telling the tale above. I’d recorded 5 tracks but felt it needed something else perhaps a killer guitar riff which as we both know I can’t play killer guitar riffs so that idea was abandoned and a simpler version was posted on here sometime ago. Recently I played the five tracks to my friend Robert Francis, one time professional musician, he thought it was great so we worked on it together and eventually came up with this instrumental telling of R Hammonds brush with death. Thanks for listening.

  1. Ooooh! I really like this one, very deep, hypnotic, even, then the sudden burst of sound from the vocalist, a cunning change of tempo right at the end. YES. Well done, great cooperative piece.
