  1. Wow! That sure is a little duck in a colossal cave. It's our spe-lucky day! Maybe Emma will enjoy this cavernous game and get a grotto fun out of it!

…are these cave puns doing anything for you?

  2. Loved hearing all the history! Looking forward to more of this.
I took the Mammoth Cave tour, ages ago; it was great.
…Living in a small town in Kentucky, on the other hand, was frankly less than great…

  3. Holy hell – I never knew this was being made!
I remember playing this back on my work computers back in the early 1980s. Always loved it, and it warms my cynical old heart to see it being turned out again.

  4. This is amazing, I missed the beginning of the stream due to being at work. Roberta is an icon of the industry but she created the graphic adventure genre not the point and click. It originally started with her drawing the pictures and writing the story which she is amazing at, then her husband did the coding for the games. The first game to ever use a mouse was Enchanted sceptre (1984)made by silicon beach software but was a mixture of mouse and text together, the first game widely recognised as the origin of the point and click adventures is Deja Vu (1985) an amazing noir detective game I would suggest anyone tries. The original kings quest games (1984)were text based and didn't have mouse support at release which is why I think some people get confused. The first Kings quest game to have mouse support at release was Kings Quest IV: The Perils of Rosella. Video game history can be really interesting.

  5. And then (as you mentioned), in 1979 Gordon Letwin made Microsoft Adventure for the Apple II and the TRS-80. And IBM PC in 1980, where it was almost the only game on launch. It was surprisingly hard to find a decent picture of the cover of that one.

  6. "but now I have a bird!" Classic.

Honestly, the art direction reminds me a lot of Oblivion and I confess that's largely why I chose to watch this, but this is a lot more chill, as far as I can tell. Haven't heard of this game before.

  7. I am a long-time fan of text advemture games. Loved them for years and years and years.

Also a fan of computer history, so I knew the things you talked about, but it was really lovely hearing you talk about it all.

Any way to read your thesis? It sounds right up my alley.

  8. I believe that this game was first played on typewriters. I would have to check but I think I'm right. Roberta Williams is a hero of mine. I bought her anthology. She and her husband Ken, always pushed the capabilities of what could be done with computers. She had a lot of first. They were pioneers.
