I think the cancellation Russia participation is more on sanctions from US and EU. Infact it was China who cancelled it. I bet Russian engines also import a lot of parts from the west. C929 is build for long haul international routes. So it was impossible to work with Russia. Actually this is good for China. Just like Chinese space station. Without foreign help, China can build it also. No problem at all.
First they should establish their strong base in short haul planes, then bigger options.

Annual production rate of C919 is 4. It has a long way to go.
It's C929…… not C939
Russian pulled out due to western sanction.. and Russia. Disagree on western part for the aircraft. On the other hand Russian already has their own new airplane project running.
It will probably take 15 years for C939 to enter commercial flights.
Then with a good track record, C939 can replace the present Boeing 747
which is now used as our state aeroplane designated for our top leaders' travels.
