Chimney Sweep is a recurring endurance challenge on Survivor. It debuted in Survivor: Fiji and later re-appeared in Survivor: Tocantins, Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains, Survivor: Redemption Island, and Survivor: Edge of Extinction.

Rules
The castaways would brace themselves with their arms between two walls while standing barefoot on two foot pegs. Every 15 minutes, the castaways would move down to smaller foot pegs. When the castaways reached the third set of foot pegs, they would try to remain on them as long as they could. The last castaway to remain on their pegs would win.

History
This challenge debuted as the first individual Immunity Challenge of Fiji. After more than one hour, Yau-Man Chan became the last man standing by outlasting Boo Bernis, winning individual immunity.

J.T. Thomas won the challenge after a close fought battle with Coach Wade after over 50 minutes when it reappeared as the final five Immunity Challenge in Tocantins.

The challenge was modified as a tribal Reward Challenge in Heroes vs. Villains, where the Heroes and Villains competed in head-to-head matches. The Villains tribe won a feast at an Outback Steakhouse after winning this challenge over the Heroes tribe.

In Redemption Island, Matt Elrod won this Redemption Island duel against his Redemption Island opponent, Sarita White, allowing him to re-enter the game.

When it reappeared in Edge of Extinction, the challenge came down to Gavin Whitson and Lauren O’Connell after multiple successive dropouts. Over 50 minutes into the challenge, Lauren dropped, leaving Gavin as the winner.

Trivia
J.T. Thomas is the only person to compete in this challenge twice.
He was still standing at the end of the challenge both times he played.
Only men have won this challenge individually; however, the Villains tribe won the challenge in Heroes vs. Villains with their only male contestant sitting out.
This challenge has appeared as a Reward Challenge, an Immunity Challenge, and a Redemption Island duel.

Twists/Changes
Redemption Island: In a drastic, game-changing twist, when a player gets voted out from Tribal Council, that player will not be eliminated right away. Instead, they will go to Redemption Island, where they will fend for themselves during their entire stay. When the next person gets voted out, the two players will compete in a “duel”. The winner gets to stay at the island, while the loser is eliminated from the game for good. At a certain point, the last person standing on Redemption Island will return to the main game and will continue his/her pursuit of the one million dollar prize and the title of Sole Survivor.
Challenges: In the advent of the Redemption Island duels, this season featured several challenges both for reward and immunity.
Two Returning Contestants: Rob Mariano and Russell Hantz returned as contestants to settle their heated rivalry during Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains.
Hidden Immunity Idol: Hidden Immunity Idols were available this season, with one hidden at each camp.
Early Merge: This season merged with twelve castaways in the game.
New Camp for Merger: This is the first time since Survivor: The Amazon where the merged tribe lived in an entirely new camp, rather than using either of the existing camps.
Double Elimination: On Day 30, Murlonio was subjected to a double elimination, where two castaways would be eliminated after two rounds of voting.

  1. And there it is! After 14 days on Redemption island Matt will reenter the game after knocking out Francesca, Russell, Kristina, Krista, Stephanie, and Sarita.
He will now go on to knock out some of the biggest players in the game, convince another player to give him a hidden immunity idol, win final immunity, give up that immunity to put himself in the final four fire making challenge, plead his case to the jury, and ultimately become the Sole Survivor! ……Oh wait, that was another player? Edge of Extinction you say? So what will become of Matt 🥲

  2. Honestly although Sarita was useless in almost every way possible, at least she got a mouth and half a brain that she would use to continue to bitch her way to entertain us, unlike Matt who went back to his owner after being abandoned. What a waste of a spot.

Redempshit Island is seriously no joke, all time bottom 1 season
