chasing a rare January tornado outbreak (4K)

NoT FoR rEbRoAdCaSt
Extremely rare and beautiful January tornadoes in Illinois.

0:00 introduction
1:32 first storms fire
2:54 tornado warning and first tornadoes
4:40 under the mesocyclone
6:24 new tornado
8:11 close range of tornado hitting Maroa, IL
10:27 anticyclonic funnel cloud

I’ve been waiting for years for a good cold core tornado outbreak setup, especially since I missed the tornado fest on December 1, 2018. I feel like I have finally redeemed myself for that day lol. Mini supercells are so great.

The video I mentioned at 6:13 is “Front Line Storm Spotting” by Skip Talbot. It’s where I learned how to forecast these cold core tornado events. The SPC forecast had a 0% tornado risk in the area I chased just the day before, but thanks to what I learned from Skip, I knew I had a good shot at seeing tornadoes. his vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVIQtKuDr2c

  1. so badass you got to see anticyclonic rotation in an already rare storm. Great video! I've never found Radarscope to be all that helpful once I'm already out there, but I haven't been lucky enough to have such an outbreak during the day so far.

  2. Nice! came here from the old chemistry recipes vid you just posted. What software are you using to track storms on your laptop? I use Radarscope at home but find it somewhat lacking in features.
