CHAINSAW MAN: A Massive Review

It’s time to review Chainsaw Man Season 1! And it’s a MASSIVE ONE! This brand new anime is in the eyes of many, the greatest anime adaptation of all time, and in others the exact opposite. I’m a massive fan of the adventures of Denji, Power and Aki and I’ve already reviewed the manga. Did the anime adaptation live up to my expectations?

Sit back, grab some food and relax. It’s time to dive into the world of Chainsaw Man!

  1. I honestly don't understand at all the criticisms towards the adaptation being more cinematic. I thought it made it stand out a lot in comparison to other animes and it fits the story really well, I usually agree with you Mark but your complaints made 0 sense to me this time

  2. Honestly, I’m glad they went in this more than realistic direction. It plays to the strength of anime as a medium, without replacing the manga. Fujimoto’s manga work would be damn near impossible to replicate in anime form, so it’s a good thing that they didn’t bother.

  3. Valid criticism but I disagree with most of your opinations, I don't want a more bold and eccentric adaptation and I love the cinematic and realistic tone of the anime, is different and unique enough to feel like a breath of fresh air and to attract a bigger audience in the west

  4. imo i give the first szn a 3/5 i found it really interesting but still feels like an empty shell with the gags not really being funny and the anime having dull colors that make the anime seem more boring to me.

  5. Well the thing is you cant talk about no time and a hard place to work and do a diffrent ED everytime, i mean i loved them all, I mean think about it, you try to make a good video, and say it isnt as good since you didnt have time, then you show of an 2min AMV. And tell us you didnt have time for the right lighting. I mean Mappa fixes alot with blueray releases but that isnt really the way to go. I dont know if you ever heard of Re:Zero, Second Seasons Second Op is an Amazing Song, They show the OP like 1-2 Times and use the time to make something amazing.
No one minds you taking your time to make something great if they know its wroth it. In this case its Another Mappa Trainwreck, Slowly i think they should just stop taking big Ips

  6. im gonna be honest, i read around 80% of chainsaw man, and all the time i was "so when does it get good?" i dunno, it just didnt do it for me. i gave a genuine shot, and while at moments i could feel like it was about to, i never actually enjoyed it.

this is how i fell about alot of popular series, boku no hero, fairy tail, promissed neverland, tokyo revengers, i even recently gave a try to the sentai version of "the boys"(i think its gonna be localized as go go loser ranger or something like that), but sometimes, it just doesnt click it with me.

  7. Great video Mark. Very well put together. My complaints for the show are super minor. Like in the book denji saves a girl while fighting katana man but in the show she just runs away. And while I don't think denji is a hero or anything like that we get a lot of subtle moments in the manga to show that as crude as denji is he can be very kind when it comes to certain topics.

  8. I liked the anime but didnt read the manga to have any adaptation gripes. About the animation though and the cg usage it was done for efficiency and for help to rotoscope over for those detailed smooth animations a lot of the time rather than a contingency plan for being backed to a corner though(most of it, i think)..i hate some things that get lost from frame by frame 2d to doing 3d or using it to rotoscope for help..but there was a lot of stellar animation 2d and 3d alike! also a reason they went a lot more digital based for all mediums is because they hired a lot of webgen animators as they call them that arent like the traditional draftsmen that are hella talented and still do pencil and paper!! overall was a great experience for me but will read the manga for the alternative and OG take!! Watch the Registry's animation analysis on every episode theres a lot of good BTS if you havent yet!! still appreciate your take and great points i might have not thought of

  9. So you’re telling me that big revenge rematch for Himeno’s death between Katana Man and Chainsaw man where they blast out of the side of a skyscraper, fight on top of a speeding train, and where Denji reveals his leg ability and delivers that awesome hunter/beast line lacked identity? That’s one of the more memorable fights in the series. Maybe compared to later ones it’s not as much of a spectacle, but I don’t personally agree with it “lacking identity”.

You know what fight actually lacks identity, the muscle devil fight. So much so that Mappa actually ended up cutting it from the anime lol

  10. Honestly, the show is Meh. Overhyped. The episodes are like 12 minutes long, because it's a 23 minute episode, but the first 5 minutes are opening and recap, and the last 5 minutes are cliff hanger and credits. You get about two or three scenes of action followed by mostly disjointed story. Take the season finale as an example. The opening doesn't start until 3:30 and lasts until about 4:55. Everything before that is recap and a short payoff to the last episodes 'cliff hanger'. Credits start rolling during the end scene at 18:24 (out of 23:55). 5+ minutes for opening and ending. 10+ minutes of a 23 minute anime is filler. It feels like I'm endlessly watching a naruto flash back and the end of the episodes is never, and I do mean NEVER satisfying.
