CA's Statement And The State Of Total War – Four Total War Content Partners Discuss

CA’s recent statement yesterday was amazingly tone deaf and down right insulting. I sat down last night with other content partners all of which are devoted to this title and yet were left in the dark for this. We are all NDA’d with Total War, we depend on this game as creators and we were slapped in the face as much as you the fans of the series.

  1. We recorded this late last night as I'll be honest with you the reason I waited until later was because the more I read over things the angrier I got so I took a break and left my pc.

I LOVE this game, it's given me a platform, many new friends and CA are making me dislike it with horrible corporate statements with thin veiled threats and I know I am not the only one.

The only positive for me is it's brought a bunch of content creators closer, we're going to do this more often and be more vocal.

P.S sorry for the audio levels it'll be better next time we were stressed and didn't think to check because of it.

  2. I don't agree with that huge bump of cost for a DLC but I also know that inflation of all goods in Europe, particularly in Great Britain (for CA in this case), is nasty and that maybe they tried to contain the influence on their costs for a long time but they can't do it anymore. Maybe if they explained it by that approach, players would have been a little less infuriated?

  3. like 70% of the statement is fine and just like, yeah costs are up yadda yadda. really just one sentence worded badly.

I wonder how much is sega putting them in a revenue crunch, or how many devs are tied up in whatever their new secret project is. Really feels like theres less and less manpower on the warhammer three. Wouldnt suprise me at all that that prject is going over budget and behind schedule and people are being pulled off for it.

  4. Isn't twwh across all 3 games the most best selling total war in history? Seems wierd that they seem so but hurt about people not buying their dlcs enough. Tone deaf and odd behaviour.

  5. This is like a declaration of war on the community…. boy surely this will go down well when the DLC comes out. They say they won't bend but if no one buys the DLC they will. All companies do this, think they're smarter and better than the people that play their game. We just have to show them that we don't agree, vote with our wallets and then they have to explain why the DLC was received so poorly at the nest investor's meeting.

  6. £20 for 3 new Lords and some extra units or £50 for Baldur's Gate 3…which option offers better value?

The TWWH francise has been a great game but it is long in the tooth now and for me to purchase any of the DLC it has to offer good value. I think CA know it is coming to a close and want to make it look like it is our fault for them dropping it.

  7. guys i really hate what ca does but most of you better chill the fuck out a little… just boykott their games until they either listen or collapse. win win imo… just show patience and stop fucking spamming reddit and other websites, why bother?

  8. Greatly appreciate you guys clarifying your stance on these developments. From a consumer perspective it's very difficult to get a bead on where we stand with Total War coverage – you guys are our channel into what's going on over at CA, as indirect as that channel may be and I find it very important to be able to differentiate your voices from theirs.
I'm genuinely pissed personally, so again – much appreciated.

EDIT: Christ, the notion of implying they might stop development and further support if we don't collectively cough up more cash is just… these people are insane – the reason Warhammer blew up is fan investment. But fan investment is not a carte blanche to charge whatever you want – they've hit up against the threshold and now they have the gall to lash out? The fuck?

  9. CA is such a frustrating company. Every couple of years they screw up big time, and just when you begin to forgive them they screw up again. I was mad over how they were treating the Historical series but they were doing such a good job lately om Warhammer that I was liking them again an then they pull thos crap…. come on CA. I want to like you but you're makikg it so hard!

  10. For me it feels pointless to even consider purchasing DLC when the base game is in a state like this.

Most of these have been reported countless times and are often marked as a "Known Issue" for many months.

To spread awareness of the critical/core long-standing bugs & issues in Tww3, here are the ones i know of:

    – Campaign map AI utterly sucks, unable to put up a proper fight, build/upgrade up its armies or effectively develop its empires.

    – Diplomacy mechanics and diplomacy AI in all ways & forms is beyond awful, especially around vassals and alliances

    – AI is bugged/limited in its perception of nearby faction (is literally not aware what factions are nearby [no diplomatic contact]).

    – unit pathing in manual battles, especially cities with construct-able barricades, is awful

    – units refusing to path through broken city gates & destroyed city walls, instead insisting on using ladders to slowly climb up & exhaust themselves.

    – cavalry/monsters getting models stuck, which pulls back the whole unit into death.

    – units dropping/forgetting orders, even in the middle of pitched melee combat

    – units not shooting because they are "moving fast" while being stationary

    – units unable to shoot despite having clear Line Of Sight

    – battle maps being broken for pathing and LOSight, especially on top of wall crenellations

    – auto-resolve insists on damaging & killing Single-entity-monsters and especially artillery pieces, even when the player army outnumbers the enemy 5 to 1.

    – auto-resolve still gives cities a ridicilous advantage, even when the player army outnumbers the enemy minor settlement garrison 5 to 1.

    – certain units & lords/heroes fail to properly do their charging attack

    – units (especially large ones) will randomly die when attacking certain walls/gates, or being remotely in proximity of a collapsing wall (but nowhere near close enough for it to be a valid danger).

    – units (even lords on foot) will randomly die when climbing ladders.

    – some lords (cathay dragons especially) just flat out fail to perform melee attacks for well over 10 seconds at a time.

    – AI does not understand nor properly react during the defense of siege battles, it will spread out its army across the map and be unable to fight a concentrated force.

    – AI charging his fastest units at the start of battle into certain death, especially lords/heroes like Belakor

    – AI clueless about properly using AOE magic & magic in general, which also makes anything "anti magic" rather useless

    – hundreds of bugs related to skills, techs, items, unit abilities/stats, building mechanics etc etc.

    – Item qualities being nonsense, with common ones often being better than rare/special ones.

    – lord/hero traits either not working or straight up inferior compared to other available ones.

    – WOChaos revive norsca faction mechanic intentionally broken by CA because they could not be bothered to properly fix it.

    – Countless quests for lord items or unlocking special lords/heroes do not work properly

    – AI occasionally able to see your ambush/hidden armies from across immense distances & react to their positioning

    – skirmish mode on ranged units often failing to trigger/react, causing the ranged unit to just stand still

    – AI will often prioritize targeting, sabotaging or annoying the player even if it means certain doom for its faction.

    – player units are utterly unable to finish off a broken leadership/fleeing unit, especially if it is a single entity like a foot lord.

    – squads of large-sized ranged units (like salamander/razordon hunting packs) after finishing a move order will take forever to "wiggle around" before actually firing

    – confederated lords for factions that have loyalty mechanics (skaven etc) will often start at zero loyalty.

    – confederated lords will sometimes not be able to change their mounts

    – confederated Legendary lords will sometimes lack their immortality trait, meaning their next death is permanent.

    – Completely non-functional mechanic for automatic development of cities (everyone forgot this even exists in game because it never worked)

    – AI lacking any proper skill builds for most lords and heroes, which both makes them weaker and makes those lords useless for confederation.

    – bugs related to construct-able objects on defensive maps, where units get stuck in barricades or can not attack them

    – fresh bugs like bretonia damsels, wood elf ariel, nakai unit recruitment etc etc.

    – Black Ark unique map army spawn positions AGAIN bugged, after it was fixed in late Tww 2

    – Black Ark capability to offer recruitment to nearby DElf armies bugs out when the Black Ark is garrisoned in a city.

    – AI will readily kill its own armies by trying to occupy ruins that have just been destroyed by extremely unfriendly (but not yet at war) factions which are still surrounding that location (from the previous turns razing).

    – AI will readily abandon its capital city and flee to some meaningless tier 1 settlement when facing an equal force (instead of fighting where its chance is best, inside the capitol).

    – some sea objects (like islands/treasure/skull/carcass) will cause a guaranteed crash to desktop

    – AI will insist on besieging a weak settlement for 10 turns despite outnumbering & overpowering the garrison 5 to 1, and auto-resolve showing certain defeat for the players city.

    – various lord/hero equippable ancillaries that fail to work properly

    – Vampire Count/Coast UI for showing raise dead pool possibilities (near city bar UI) does not show units recruit-able from battle casualties.

    – certain unique Cathay Caravan rewards are again inaccessible, despite being "fixed" in some previous patch (such as the vampire weapon).

    – there is a limited number of names for generic lords/heroes, and once they have all been used up the game notifications will start showing nonsense (mixing up factions, names & icons etc).

  11. I am not excited about the DLC, how CA is handling the situation, and by this, has impacted me on watching DLC content from content creators. CA would be making a dumb move to rock the boat with this community considering how much cash the community was willing to spend… had they gotten the bare minimum.

Rome may have not been built in a day, but it can fall in a day.

  12. The state of the Immortal empires map is pretty much the whole game has put into maintenance mode, where you hire a small team to do the bare minimum in keeping it running.. but then every 6 months they wake up and build a DLC and plug that in. But usually forget to properly test, cause they only have a small team for testing/patching. Then month or so later get around to balancing the game and patching stuff.

It's a very odd cycle, but they obviously don't support the game all that much between DLC launches

  13. Wow, first time seeing that announcement. So, they essentially ARE holding WH3 hostage by making these statements and I know that's the case because look at what Total War game they did this exact very thing to: Total War: Three Kingdoms. Game support got entirely pulled permanently because they literally said people weren't buying the DLC's (because they were marketed poorly and honestly didn't offer much save for one or two of them.)

  14. from 5 bucks each lord to 25 for three lords is a 66% increase, I think a price of 17.50 would have been understandable, but since warriors of chaos was released they have been sneakily increasing the prices

  15. If they need 30$ for making this small amount of content. How the fuck are gaming companies surviving making full 60$ games? Based on this. "We cant make content unless you buy this small pitance for half the price of full games and full price of most indie games, we die." How the fuck are they surviving then?

  16. In AUD it used to be $12.99 for a Lord pack. Now it's $35.95. Same as the Chaos Dwarf race pack, and 179% increase on normal lord packs. That's unacceptable. There is no way they are paying their staff 179% more. This is not inflation. This is pure greedflation. And this statement feels like such a tone deaf slap, what a Fing joke. I was unhappy before, I'm Fing furious now.

  17. Community needs to get together and don't buy this half baked dlc. Im sure CA will not abandone their golden goose. Perhaps they will kick out someone from management and thats a win for us.

  18. "Look, we've been selling £10 worth of DLC for £25 for a while now, and its industry standard to put out half coded, half tested, hyped trash for 3x value for years. So just accept it, let us get our shareholders some more yachts, or we are out "

    Playerbase: "No"

  19. Late to the part here, i watched venris video about the state of ca. I too felt like this as the lack of quality of life changes. Though i am excited for the new content and dispite being broke myself can accept the price change because its something i like. So yes they are calling us foolish but foolish i am.

  20. It's laughable that they sell bugfixes as free updates along with the paid dlc. They should honestly feel ashamed.

Paradox and their games really has overtaken CA and the Total War series for me in content and quality. Though sometimes quite pricey atleast they usually offer pretty decent free updates along with their paid dlcs, and has a more rapid and steady releases, not to mention they don't only patch the game when they release a dlc…

  21. I don’t mind paying 30$ for a dlc but the content they’re giving us is not even worth 30$!

And now they put our community in a hostage situation.. if we don’t buy their dlc they will stop making contents for warhammer?? That’s a greedy move CA.. your becoming like EA!
