  1. When is WotC going to invent a format that doesn't allow any cards printed in the last several years? I got so frustrated with the horrible card design that I quit playing about 2 years ago and every time I want to come back (you ALWAYS want to come back, there's nothing quite like Magic sadly) and I start watching more and more videos I just see that they're still obsessed with power creep and printing a shitload of broken, must answer nonsense. I miss when Magic felt like a game of inches rather than just lucking into slamming your broken shit before your opponent. It feels like Magic has taken a downhill turn ever since they decided it would be a good idea to print a bunch of busted walkers in War of the Spark that for some reason aren't even symmetrical effects. Even control cards feel too strong now, control used to be fun to play and fun to play against back when you would play modern and see your opponent drop a Hallowed Fountain and wonder why they would play something as weak as control. I think the best formats where control exists are formats where control is "reasonably playable" but not close to tier 1.

  2. Hey, there is a format where attacking and blocking is relevant! In vintage you have lots of creature combat between dredge, hogaak, BUG, the various saga decks and shops. Only decks not engaging in attacking and blocking really are doomsday, paradoxical outcome, oath and some variants of standstill. Combat matters to all of the others in about half of all matches I'd say. Like half the reason shredder is dope in vintage is because it blocks super well, same for tasigur and the like out of sideboards.
Obviously pretty bad that the only format where combat matters is also one of the least accessible formats since you need to know your opponents decks pretty well to play decently (at least it's cheap on modo I guess 😛 )
