Happy Veteran’s Day from your Birmingham Bulls! To celebrate today, we had Jonny Pace sit down with Command Sergeant Major Retired Jerry Lewis McClain for an interview. Thank you for your service!

Command Sergeant Major Retired Jerry Lewis McClain is a highly decorated retired Army veteran with an impressive military career spanning over two decades. He served as the Command Sergeant Major of 2nd Ranger Battalion at Fort Lewis, WA from January 1996 until his retirement in 2001. Mr. McClain entered service in October 1976 from Montgomery, AL and underwent basic training at Fort Jackson, SC, and Infantry Advanced Individual Training at Fort Benning, GA.

His military accomplishments are recognized through numerous awards and decorations, including the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and Combat Infantrymen’s Badge. He also earned various specialized badges, such as the Combat Parachutist Bronze Star (Combat Jump in Operation ’Just Cause’) Expert Infantrymen’s Badge, Jumpmaster Parachutist Badge, Ranger Tab, British Airborne Wings, Pathfinder Badge, and Drill Sergeant Badge.

In addition to his military education, which includes completion of courses like the Ranger Course, First Sergeant Course, and Command Sergeant Major Course, Mr. McClain holds an Associate Degree from Troy State University and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Chapman University. He is also a licensed and ordained Minister of the Gospel.

Mr. McClain is actively involved in both military and civilian associations, including being a Lifetime Member of the 75th Ranger Regiment Association and the American Legion. He has also served as a Veteran Advisor at the Birmingham VA Medical Center and received several prestigious awards, such as induction into the 2022 Ranger Hall of Fame, the Birmingham, AL Business Journal Veteran of Influence Award and the State of Alabama Governor’s Annual Alabama Veteran of the Year Award.

Outside of his military and professional accomplishments, Mr. McClain finds joy in his personal life. He is happily married to Charla Evette Banks-McClain, and together they co-Pastor the Kingdom Christian Center Ministries here in Pelham.
They have five adult children, 14 grandchildren, and one great-grandson.
