BROKEN LEGO | Brittle Brown Strikes Again!

While building trees in my latest livestream, I had the unfortunate experience of breaking LEGO pieces. The ongoing issue of “brittle brown” that has plagued LEGO builders for years continues its horrible trend.

  2. Yeah, I hate when this happens. Most of the issues stems from batches of reddish brown and dark red parts from around a decade ago, I believe. Thankfully, LEGO is great about sending replacements of broken (or missing) parts..

  3. I’m building the razor crest at the mo and the plates feel different, like they’re made of a softer plastic.
And the bricks don’t have that click connection like the last set I built which was the ‘23 modular
Or am I going crazy ?

  4. I’ve been experiencing brittle brown for quite some time. It is frustrating to open an old LEGO set for the first time and have this issue. I also cringe when I see new sets coming out that have a lot of reddish brown and dark brown. I’m thinking to myself…how long are these pieces going to last?

  5. Call Lego customer support and tell them how many you have and they will replace them. I have contacted in the past for missing parts and they send replacements really quickly.

  6. Did the older, brown shades, have the same problem? I know they have that reddish brown now and those brown plates don't look like the "classic brown". I personally think that LEGO puts too much into putting out as many, licensed sets, as they can and should, rather, spend some time correcting some quality control issues. I have a lot of older, 80's, 90s and mid 2000s, LEGO and I've noticed with newer sets, that the plastic feels different. I can squeeze and flex, bricks that I never could before. I reckon, they probably think they are too big to fail but still, they should stop using inferior plastic pellets in their molding.

  7. I had one of the deck plates break on me when disassembling the 2011 Beach House(?). Guess what color they are?

Granted, I could have been using the brick separator improperly… I don't know.

  8. So far, the only brown bricks I’ve had crack are round 1×1 bricks. I’ve had the bases crack on several when pulling them off whatever they were stuck on.

Tree Tip: If you put Lego rigid hose down through the hole in the center of your round 2x2s, it makes the trees a lot studier.
