Ever since I learned how this bowl was made, it’s been my new favorite style. Trish Messenger makes it as a smooth bowl, then after it’s dried some she breaks sections off the rim piece by piece. This creates an irregular but smoothed-over look, which kind of reminds me of a piece of driftwood.
Even better, with some of her bowls, she makes them out of a mold that creates this awesome texture on the outside that makes them look even more earthy. The amazingly bright, cracked glaze designs with some pieces are my personal favorites, but some people are drawn to the more muted browns and greens of others. But regardless of the glaze, the rim is what really stands out to me.
