Amazing! Plasma torch is used to cut steel plates submerged in water. One just wonders if plasma generated by Raptor rocket engines is in any way different than plasma used for cutting steel? Is Elon going to use steel that does not contain any Iron in it? Is Elon going to use water that does not contain 90% Oxygen by weight,? Questions about Elon's contact with reality keep on piling up. Elon says that they will shoot water upward to counteract pressure of gas coming out of Raptor engines. Does he has a clue what pressures is he talking about? Raptor engine with expansion bell diameter of 1.3m generates thrust of 230mT that works out to 13 bar or 130m of water column. Divergence of exhaust of Raptor rocket engine is minimal over distance under consideration so there will be great variation in gas pressure hitting water nozzles. So it seems that in some places water will be pushed back into the nozzzles while in other places water will be blasting bottom of the rocket.
That amount of damage is hard to believe. I can't believe starship didn't explode from shrapnel damage.

If it blew away the launch pad and it is concrete, then the question is about the lander and what would it do to the Lunar surface or the Mars surface??? Would it be landing in a hole??? There may be practical mass "scalability" maximums.

There's this episode of The Six Million Dollar Man where they tied Steve Austin up beneath a rocket and he had to run out there at bionic speed before takeoff. I recall how HUGE it was. And Starship One is twice as powerful as the Apollo rocket.
Just based on that observation by an 8 year old me, nothing that happened on 4/20/23 was a surprise. I've always heard that the rocket can destroy itself and the launchpad, but it's never actually happened, until now. 😂

That tripod of a launch pad got to go. NASA has ready to go launch pads nearbly, all safe and all good. They serviced Saturn V, remember? They divert all the flames and cool it by water spray. The launch pad this is using is a death trap, destructive and dangerous. So twice, a zillion dollar spaceship were destroyed because of the stupid tripod. Get rid of it now!
Not to mention SpaceX deviated everything what NASA has learned to avoid such destruction during the Apollo program, and now we have the SLS and the damage from that rocket is incredibly smaller than Starship's.
Thank you, Marcus! This was a very educational video, and it contained a number of things that I did not previously know regarding Spacex's way of doing things. I have followed the U.S. Space programs going all the way back to the Mercury Program in the early 1960's. And a friend of mine, who is obviously MUCH younger than I, is the guy who designed the heat shield for the Parker Solar Probe, which is orbiting the sun even as we speak! He was quite taken aback when I told him how long I've been following the U.S. Space endeavors (that's all ancient history to him, and he read about it in books, but he was quite impressed when I told him I watched everything since the Mercury Program on TV. Meanwhile, I was VERY impressed when he told me about his work on the Parker Solar probe. Without his heat shield, the sensitive instrumentation onboard would have MELTED on the Probe's first orbit. But he obviously did a good job, since it has been in orbit for many months, and ALL the instruments on the spacecraft are healthy and sending data back to earth. Is there a way I can get on a mailing list so I won't miss any such updates in the future? I'd love to sign up for that. Again, Marcus, thanks for posting this informative video!

The doomed toxic ego project known as "Starship" will never go to the moon, much less survive a "landing" on the moon. It will be a miracle if Starship ever successfully gets into orbit, and I would not place a bet on Starship even launching again within the next year. Musk's forecast of another launch within a "month or two" is a joke. This latest "launch" fiasco is an apt metaphor for Musk's handling of Twitter, which is an unmitigated disaster.

The thing is a replication of the Boca Chica starship launch site is being built at NASA….. How will Space X counter this ….to ensure that NASA doesn't suffer the same fate? SPACE X should now reinforce 100 times at Boca Chica before attempting a launch attempt at NASA, but Space X is replicating a structure that got messed up 6-0 by its insane 36 rocket engines. If not everything is going to get fucked up..at Boca Chica again and NASA.(I don't even think NASA is gonna allow that power at their launching site), I WANT to see Starship land on the Moon and Mars man… All the best… Elon and team.
I think that space exploration is a waste of money especially at a time when the money can be used to improve things on Earth… maybe using space to reduce flight time between countries, mining near Earth asteroids … instead of escaping to the moon or Mars after damaging what God has given as the perfect home(Earth)….We need to concentrate on reviving and developing the Earth first …. at least until we eradicate poverty, wars and oppression
Musk and all of the space nerds claiming that the launch and destruction of the ship was successful, and produced a lot of data, is the same as if the Japanese saying that the atomic destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were a positive learning experience. Musks cock rocket was a disaster. It wrecked the pad, the area surrounding it and the rocket didn't get out of the atmosphere. hahaha. a fucken expensive mess.
