British soldiers killed 80 years ago during Operation Market Garden finally laid to rest

Two British soldiers who were killed 80 years ago during the Battle of Arnhem have finally been laid to rest with full military honours.

Private Henry Moon and Lieutenant Dermod Green Anderson died fighting in Operation Market Garden, the major airborne offensive aimed at securing strategically important crossings in the Netherlands.

They were buried in the Commonwealth War Graves Commission’s Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery, which is the final resting place of more than 1,700 Second World War service personnel.

  2. As an American, I'm proud to have had such great allies as the British all these years. It really hit home when they showed the soldier from the burial party wearing the same NATO medal from Afghanistan that I wear. God bless the British, and God bless the Dutch.

  3. May H . Moon rest in peace. As ever the Dutch are class when dealing with these kinds of occasions.
But I appeal to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission to exhume the one soldier in Reusel,Holland buried without a named headstone who the Dutch army and the people of Reusel know is Vernon John Kia 1944. Please give him the dignity of having him recognised. He gave his life for freedom

  4. A real shame and disrespect to those men who died fighting Nazi Germany only for the past & current goverment to support a totally corrupt and undemocratic Nazi regime in Kiev. BoJo, Sunak and Starmer are all guilty of perpetuating untold unnecessary human suffering while their billionaire masters profit from it.

  5. With utmost respect to the people who tend the graves of our fallen and to the small teams of people dedicated to identifying all remains that are found in an effort to identify them and ensure a proper burial for them in a marked grave….

God bless all who fought for freedom that we may live in peace and especially to those who never returned home to savour the peace they gave their lifes for …..my late father served from 1940-45 and he was my hero but he said the real heroes are the ones he left behind in France and across northern Europe.
