The UK will become the fourth country to buy the Wedgetail aircraft after Australia, South Korea and Turkey, Britain’s top airman says he wants the UK to restore the number of aircraft it originally planned to acquire before the number of platforms was reduced to save money in a government defense review

What's going on with that vid title
Maybe if the government HADN'T destroyed the previous airborne early warning aircraft before the ink had dried on a previous sdsr. WE WOULDN'T HAVE TO WASTE ANOTHER 1 TO £2 Billion on replacing them. Oh yeah, that's right, the Cold War was over, and Russia wasn't a problem. Oops, David Cameron and his government got it wrong AGAIN. No change there then!
So we're using Boeing. Aren't there concerns over those aircraft. Oh, another military piece of equipment from a US manufacturer that's a waste of time, effort, and TAXPAYERS money!!
Its a constant robbing Peter to pay Paul with the Army getting the diry end of the stick endlessl yet other arms regardlessly being sold short themselves leaving all threadbare. Any proffessional outfit will make best of all with the make-and-mend attitude. The British Army will always turn up and do all asked to the best of their abilities .
What's wrong with putting the Taxpayers Money to the British army for their defence of the UK that we do need badly??
So tell us why they have Cancelled the 5 Type 32 Frigates?? god, this Government just gets worse every day. Go reform.
So Australia has six, but the UK think that 5 is a long term goal?
Yeap. The situation has changed. We need at least two more. Im saying things WILL get harsh over the next few years and we need to be smart and prepared.
Those old tornados should be done up. We must have six of them we can gift them. Nine were retired only a few years back.
5 down to 3 aircraft 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️. Wtf ! UK needs redundancy and survivability in numbers not bean counting. If 🇬🇧 was to lose just one aircraft then that's it. We need multiple aircrew trained and multiple aircraft too. 🦧
The type 26 is a joke..it is extremely under armed
Good news for the UK. These are VERY capable aircraft that can locate and identify targets as small as an off the shelf drone from very long distance. They are excellent force multipliers and make any adversary not so equipped very vulnerable to the F35s and other 21century weapons systems.
The RAF actually need, to buy at least 3 to 6 extra Boeing E-7 Wedgetail AEW.1's aircraft, instead of increasing from just 3 present E-7's back to the orginal 5 RAF E-7's, so the RAF has 9 E-7 Wedgetail AEW.1's in service by early 2030's.
Along with the British Government and MoD buying 3 to 6 extra Boeing P.8A Poseiden MRA.1's, so the RAF has upto 12 or 15 Poseiden MRA.1's in service by 2035 too
Lastly maybe the UK buying for the RAF, 3 new Boeing Posiden RC.1 (IRS-platforms), for tactical strategic reconnaissance operations.
To replace the 3 RAF fastly aging ex-USAF RC-135's from the 1960's, as they are already 60 years by now?
However, on top of the UK now having to think about buying more Typhoon Fighters, to have a fleet of 180 operational Tyhoon Fighters and Fighter-Bombers too.
Equally buying more F-35B's for RAF and FAA, upto 120 F-35B's, then maybe buying 40 to 60 F-35A for the RAF too.
So the RAF and the FAa between them, have a minimum number of 4th and 5th Generation Fighters, of around 360 Fighters?
Will cost the British Taxpayers, a great deal of money.
That is on top of 18 new Frigates, plus 6 new Destroyers, as well as new Off Shore Patrol Vessels.
Then both new 2 or 3 Amphibious Logistic Ships and 3 new Seabed Warefare Ships, plus 2 or 3 new Fleet Auxiliary Support Ships too.
Let alone upto 5 new Astute improved Class SSGN's, with Vertical Launch Systems, for long range Cruise and Hypersonic Missile too.
Without talking about extra money, for the British Army, for new fleet of MBT's and new AIFV's, plus new SPH's, new MLRS's and HIMARS's, as well as AircDefence Systems too
We should start building our own stuff again!
Britain should to buy..
Should to buy!!!!
Gotta love the use of my language..
