  2. The original video is fun to watch already. But, watching it "together" with you, gave yet another level of "interesting and fun". Thx for this reaction video. My highlight of this day, so far. .. Edit: Oh and, (friendly reminder) can you please add the link to the original video to the description? I find this should be common curtsey.

  3. Its important to note that the "Roman Empire" he is talking about isn't Rome or have anything to do with the Roman Empire of antiquity. As it had fallen a long time ago. The western half at least. The Eastern Roman empire, or Byzantine Empire existed and is was the true successor to Rome. But in the west the Papacy continued their sort of "Roman" legacy by placing crowns on the heads of christian kings. So they were the symbolic holders of the land, and thereby "Rome" symbolically still existed. And the Papacy or "Rome" leased out the land to local nobles to hold in in their stead.

They even crowned the Frankish (pre-French) king the Holy Roman Emperor as he came very close to uniting most of western mainland Europe under his empire. The idea behind the title was for the catholic church to have their own "Roman Empire" which was a counter agianst the still intact and orthodox christan Eastern Roman Empire in Constantinople.

Later the Frankish Empire split and was devided between his sons. And todays Germany or German states terrirories was named the Holy Roman Empire. The pope and German Holy Roman Emperor was more or less quarreling and fighting about which had the most authority in this invented "Roman Empire" which were not Roman at all, and was barely an empire. But an amalgamation of 100s of smaller princedoms, city states, bishoprics and kingdoms:P It was still a force to be reckoned with in medieval Europe though. Especially in the early medieval ages.

  4. The Swedish vikings as a "nation" didn't do much. They were less united than even the Norwegians and didn't really unite into a country before after the viking age, and the medieval age began in Northern Europe. But they did raid and trade down the big rivers of Eastern Europe. All the way down to the black sea. And settled lands and intermingled with the slavs. And Swedish adventurers, often second son nobles without inheritance formed their own tribes and kingdoms there.

Swedish vikings, togheter with some Norwegian ones had a hand in the creation of proto Russian and slavic nations and founded cities like Kiev in modern day Ukraine and Novgorod in modern day Russia. During the early medieval period there was the slavic kingdom known as Kievan-Rus ruled over by descendants of Swedish vikings.

  5. When he says there aren’t a lot of written sources about Sweden, he doesn’t mention one little known fact. The Royal Castle of Sweden, the Tre Kronor, burnt down to the ground in 1697. Among the many things destroyed in the fire was the whole National Archive and Royal Library where a lot of the historical texts that did exist had been gathered. So whatever texts and sagas that existed from the Viking age and even before were destroyed.

Also, a lot of records seem to show that Swedes were at least involved in the foundation of Kyiv.

  6. Also Islandic PPL are vikings and the Habsburgs had connections to them, so got married under each other and eventually made a former Viking and official Habsburg and let him rule the Austrian part of Ukraine, so they're also having Viking blood. There are even Russian Vikings. Viking actually is a word for nordic PPL who traveled by ship, becasue they had them figured out best, before the rest of the world and many of them stood in hole Europe.

  7. Yes, as a Swede I do love my brothers and sisters in the Nordic countries. Well…not Finland when it's hockey. And not Norway when it's skiing. And not Denmark when it's football. But other than that…❤

  8. 2000- 3000 years before the vikings came to be, there was a migration from the old sumer and assyrian empire thruogh up europe, ending up at Gotland, where from the vikings spred trough out scandinavia. That make the swedish viking the oldest bransch. Some spread west and south to Norway and Denmark. The "swedish" vikings went east. That's why there are no finnish vikings, because they were all swedes. But they went even further east into russia (the swedish vikings were called "ruser"), and back south into ukraine – were there still today is a place called "gammelsvenskby" (oldswedishvillage). Wich european country is sponsring the war in ukraine the hardest? So.. Norwegian and Danes went west, the swedes east and back south. The germanic tribes wich fought down the roman empire was a mix of the three countries vikings. Sweden today have welcomed more than twice as much migrants than Denmark, Norway and Finland combined. The population don't agree with the government, but will eventually go the same way as our neighbours and get more restrective. The old viking spirit will spread and we will fight for our northern corner of the world.

  10. Greatings from Denmark. Did you notice what he said about “Bluetooth”?
The word Bluetooth that is used today is taken from the name of a danish king Harold Bluetooth or Harald Blåtand as he is called in danish.

  11. Most Swedish vikings interacted with Eastern Europe. So there's unfortunately not a lot of preserved litterary sources. The water level was higher back then, so it was very easy to travel by river all the way down to Greece/Turkey. The modern name for Russia is based on the eastern European name for swedes/vikings "rus".

  13. We Swedes still sits at our asses and do nothing about anything LOL! But I think if Norway or Denmark gets in trouble. I know that the Swedish people will support them. If they doesnt have done anything stupid of course! If they did that, they have to take care of their own mess LOL! Think and learn as we say, and clean up your mess!. But we dont have the same connection whit Finland. I guess its because of the language. We dont understand finnish. But Swedes, Danes and Norweigan people understand each other. Well the danes havent swallowed their oatmeal at breakfast. So we have to listen a little bit closer what they are talking about to understand them. But mainly we will support them if any country are a threat to them. Right Norway and Denmark?

  14. Oh I love how quickly this comment section turned into a cesspool of a mess between Danes, Swedes and Norwegians….and yeah, I'm a Dane and proud of saying that I'll be ready at any time to knock the Swedes out cold with a club, whenever they attempt to walk across the frozen waters at Øresund. And of course I'll have Norwegians right there next to me cheering for me everytime another Swede comes too close. Just, don't come over too often. I still need people to continue making Volvo's for me 🤣🤣🤣

  15. Finland didn't have vikings, more than the Swedish ones that took the boat across the sea to expand. The area had very few people at the time, and their tribes was mostly fighting amongst themselves and with tribes from further east, and doing agriculture. Finland pretty much became a part of Sweden very early on, and 1253 is the first time that Finland is administratively listed as being part of Sweden through diocese records, and the the karelian area was added at the end of the 13th century. If you look at the flag and coat of arms of Soutwest Finland (Egentliga Finland/Varsinais Suomi) they still bear the Swedish flags.

  16. Yeah…as Vikings we were pretty bad ass 🙂 We at one point had a big part of Sweeden, all of Norway and a big chunk of Greenland. We traded in vast areas of Russia…all the way to the Black Sea. Also a big chunk of England.
Magrethe the first was a wild woman who was a Danish queen just after the end of the Viking era. She conquered big chunks of Sweden and all of Norway. Sweden got thier parts back some hundred years later…and Norway got thier independance in 1805 caused by England as Denmark was on the same side as Napoleon
