Blizzard changed their plans for Overwatch 2 PvE

Blizzard has been sharing a ton of information on the upcoming release of Overwatch 2. Battle Passes, Mythic skins, Seasons, and more. A full PvP experience, ready for the next era. But what about PvE? Wasn’t Overwatch 2 all about the story element? A vehicle to explain the lore? Are we still going to battle the Omnics? We sure will, but it seems that they have some new plans, some new ideas. And with that come new questions. More stuff for us to worry about. Watch now and find out.

  1. Hi, Omnic Post.

I have a feeling that when the PvE releases in 2023, it's most likely going to be "pay once and we can have access to all of the upcoming missions". One thing that comes to mind for me is that it might come in a unique way. Maybe it could be done where there are three purchase options; one exclusively for the story missions, one exclusively for the hero missions and one for both at once. Idk, it's just a random idea. Who knows? But I seriously doubt that players will have to pay for the missions that come every season. If anything, I think the people in the Overwatch team are smart enough to know that having to pay for PvE every season might not be a good idea. We'll just see what happens.

  2. "In terms of Pve, there is no pve."
-what was the point of the sequal again?

… so one 10 minute archive mission every 9 weeks. cool.
and on top of that paying 20 bucks each 9 weeks for said single mission?
    bps and countless "season passes"

…so much for actual pve foccused story content.

I'm worried about the future of overwatch. looking at diablo immortal… this might be a very big shit show. papa jeff leaving seems to be the definite start of corporate influence and greed.

the should've just updated OW1 to the new systems and then added missions in regular updates. smh.

  3. Doesn’t Fortnite make you pay every new season for PVE? I paid like $15 a few months back and couldn’t really get into it. Then I saw some more PVE content was coming out, loaded it up and got hit with a paywall. I really hope OW2 doesn’t go that route.
Edit: I stand corrected, it is a one time fee

  4. AAAAAA!! Once PvE releases I'm playing it non-stop haha no PvP anymore, just PvE :p I quite like the PvE seasonal thing, at least if it's as good as if it wouldn't have been seasonal :p I don't mind paying a little extra for the PvE stuff, as long as it isn't like €20 for every mission :p Great video!

  5. The funny thing was for like a year or so Overwatch 2 was available for preorder at Gamestop Germany for 70€. I would have been down with buying a collectors edition with a statue. I love my Soldier 76 statue.

But you are mostly likely correct… they will try to monetize PvE. They could be DLCs. Since they promised they would be replayable. At this point I doubt Blizzard will offer up free content.

Honestly I rarely buy DLCs. Not that I wouldn't… it depends on the price. But then again… $5 to 20 (or €) per DLC would get expensive over time.

The next question is how will the leveling up impact PvP. Will it?

At this point I am slightly disgruntled. I would have been happier paying 70€ for the whole package.

I guess we will see what happens at Gamescom.

  6. I'm hoping there will be multiple story campaigns. The core campaign would be about present day Overwatch's war against Null Sector and Talon. Then there would also be several side campaigns, perhaps one set in the Omnic Crisis or the golden era of Overwatch. Considering what's been revealed about the Junker Queen recently, I don't think a Junker campaign would be out of the question either.

  7. Thank you for this much needed video! I and all of the OW PVE fans all think OW’s history would have been a much different… much better one if only we had a full pve campaign at release!

  8. At this time, we don't know how Blizzard is gonna progress the PVE starting on next year but if they're following Halo or Call of Duty's Battle Pass movement, it's worth the investment but the downside is that many players may or may not want to pay a dollar (depending on their budget or whatever) but to me, I would give it a shot since I really want to dig deeper on Overwatch's lore.

  9. Here's another take: it would be (in my opinion, of course) a HUGE mistake if they were to go about OW2 PVE with a similar business model of that Destiny 2, by selling each separate DLC for every game mode they create. Those tend to be way overpriced, and honestly just make me frustrated to think I have to swipe every time there's new content to the game. I much prefer they just ask for a fixed price, and give us the game modes they plan making for that price tag.

  10. Yet another take, we from the ow pve fan/playerbase community truly dream of seeing the day when pve won’t be gated by blizzard anymore, and we’ll finally be able to play our highscore runs, form our teams, communities and friendships like the OW devs always wanted from the start, but that the pvp didn’t manage to maintain. If you never truly tried pve, you’re missing out on the absolute best community you’d ever find in OW.

  11. I hope you can get it for free if your a founder pack from the OW1 like they gave those people who are founder pack 2 skins I mean I was expecting more than 2 but at least I have a new exclusive skin

  12. So the game was initially gonna launch with full PvE but now instead we have to wait a year and then it's drip fed to us? I fail to see how this is anything but terrible news.
