Yes Giselle is biologically male confirmed by Kubo. In the manga and original broadcasting Yumichika said, “I know you tried to conceal it but you reek of semen.” but it got changed internationally to, “I know you tried to conceal it but it’s so obvious.” Imagine if they kept the old one. 😅
Yeah Giselle is male, we knoe that much, the official subs for this episode soft censors it but Yumichika is pretty much clear about the fact that Giselle "reeks" of semen and even the fact that Giselle should be "hard" instead of "wet".
Whether they are transfem or just… a freak that crossdresses, atp its a matter of how do you take it. When asked about whether Yumichika was just trolling or was actually tellig the truth about the reeking of semen bit, Kubo answers that Giselle IS male in his fan club site. During publication the shonen jump basically goes along the lines of "wow one of the Sternritter girls is actually a BOY" as promotion of the chapter. Additional content like the light novels or BBS (mobile game) tends to use neutral/ambiguous pronouns for Giselle in jp but the official translations by VIZ media usually just stick with using femenine pronouns. The official jp anime site for TYBW used refer Giselle as a "a quincy girl" but when this episode aired they changed it to just "quincy" yet the en (VIZ) site still keeps the "girl" part. VIZ just recently made a "bleach women" compilation in their youtube channel with moments of Cour 1 and 2 yet when they show all the female sternritters they completely skip over Giselle almost on purpose.
Probably the only solid proof of Giselle being trans is their reaction at being "outed" by Yumichika and being called "the same as me" by Charlotte but it can also be argued that Giselle was just surprised/annoyed that Yumichika was calling them stinky like that and also was mad at being compared to Charlotte of all people. Well, that, and the fact that Giselle usually goes "oh but why would you hurt an unarmed girl like meeee"
Personally, Giselle barely exists enough as a character for me to care to find a solution to this mess. If anything using female pronouns for Gigi is fine because that's what VIZ does.
Giselle is such a W
Curious fact! Bambies wings got smaller to signify she got heavily weakened as a zombie! Also, if you think about it, they "saved" her because since she lost to komamura, she would have been executed like Bg9 and Cang du, so it was a really weird way of keeping her around ? (Giselle is still a monster tho) loved the reaction!
I am more forgiving of Uryu’s actions so far here in the anime. The manga never showed us when or how Uryu was recruited. The anime showed us that Haschwalth (long white haired pretty boy who is Yhwach’s second-in-command) recruited him around the same time Ichigo was being trained by the Royal Guard. That shows us Uryu was approached when he was alone, his friends were away in other worlds, and had no real way of contacting them.
Uryu outright refusing to join for all he knew could have led to him being killed right there and then. Since Uryu is more of the strategic member of their group I am sure he thought of that possibility and thought the option that would secure his life and potentially take down the enemy is to accept the offer, go with them, learn everything he can, and then work to undermine them from the inside.
Of course, he likely thought he would be forced to prove himself and accepted that consequence. I do think Uryu should trust his friends and not try to do everything on his own, but also think the anime showed us it wasn’t as simple as rejecting the offer to join and then he would have been allowed to go fight for Soul Society. It makes Uryu’s actions easier to swallow to me.
Mayuri is a mad scientist and a bit of a sadist. I think he only allowed his zombie to keep their free will so they would know they are being controlled by him and feel the punishment when they disobeyed lol. He is an entertaining character and more layered than some of the other captains, and I do like how Kubo uses Mayuri to show Soul Society is morally gray. He shines this arc, since he doesn’t allow morality to get in the way of winning at any cost.
As for the man ever getting what he deserves that won’t happen. I think Mayuri is one of Kubo’s favorite characters. After the initial fight with Uryu he toned down Mayuri’s messed up and vile actions. He used to beat Nemu for failing at the slightest thing. He ordered her to hold down Uryu while he cut both of them just to give him the edge. When Nemu asked for the cure he viciously beat her. That just never happens again. The fact Mayuri arranged for the deaths of the Quincy left in the Human World by paying off shinigami to not fight the hollows who attacked them is never brought up again. Nor is the fact that after the Quincy died Mayuri hunted their souls when they crossed over to experiment on them until they died again, which included Uryu’s grandfather. The fact our main character and his friend group never learn of this fact felt convenient way to avoid them back to grapple with rather Mayuri’s usefulness excuses the heinous crimes he has committed. I have always been curious to see what Ichigo’s reaction to Mayuri would be if he ever learned what Mayuri did to Uryu’s grandfather.
Giselle is biologically male (confirmed by Kubo in a Q&A) but clearly identifies as female so I refer to her as such. Simple and avoids making anymore of an offense than Giselle already is for her personality.
Fun Fact: According to Q&A #525 by Tite Kubo on his fansite "Klub Outside", Kubo confirmed that Giselle is the overall second strongest of the Bambies, having the third best fighting skills after Liltotto and Meninas. Her Blut potency is the second strongest after Liltotto.
PS: How do you propose killing Giselle the Zombie because if its a good plan then I suggest mailing it to Kubo?
No blood, she wants semen btw
