Space Engineers is a voxel-based sandbox game set in space and on planets, developed and published by Czech independent developer Keen Software House. In 2013, the initial developmental release of the game joined the Steam early access program. During the following years of active development, Space Engineers sold over one million units. In total as of 2019 the game has sold over 3.5 million copies In May 2015, for approximately a year and a half, the game’s source code was officially available and maintained by KSH to assist the modding community. On December 15, 2016, the game entered Beta and was later officially released on February 28, 2019.
The game is a sandbox game about engineering, construction, exploration and survival in space and on planets. Players build space ships, space stations, planetary outposts of various sizes and uses, pilot ships and travel through space to explore planets and gather resources to survive.

  1. Very exciting to hear.

I loved the concept of SE, but felt it was more of a tech demo than a game, with not much to do, and an engine that didnt like us making a lot of buildings, so we couldnt just go minecraft on it.

But this? Now I can picture actually building like a city, or some huge vehicle, and actually enjoy it without the game freaking out so quickly. 😛

  2. Unified Grid System is very exciting, but to be entirely honest, I would like a little more to do as infantry. A little exansion of hand weapons and things to use them on.
I want to see how ludicrous jetpack gunfights in 0G can be, though I don't know how likely that is in a game so focused on building things.

  3. I am currently playing Empyrion with a friend, and the fact that there's an actually story and quests in the world really gives you motivation to continue. Space Engineers just felt so lacking because it was literally just a sandbox… Yes there are scenarios, but they're usually not THAT thorough.
I just want a mix of both, because I love the detail and more difficult nature of Space Engineers, but a lot of the features and of course story of Empyrion.
Also, in Empyrion planets at least for a little alive. Would be nice to see that in SE2.

  4. I’m astonished as a very starter game dev (only doing visual scripting in unity) I Cana understand how INCREDIBLY hard this game whould be to make so seeing things like the new building system I’m praising them

I hope to see this game in my lifetime/I hope it isn’t a GTA6 scenario

  5. I kept buying DLCs in a hope they would fund exactly this. NOT disappointed. This is EXACTLY what we wanted and exactly what we needed.

New engine development, purpose built like this is extremely complicated and involved process. I am so glad they persisted.

  6. You know, regarding destruction, one thing I would like to see is this: if the voxel is of a soft type like dirt or sand, instead of just disappearing, it actually displaces around the crashing ship – maybe not in real time, but afterwards, a mound just forms around and over the craft.

  7. Ok so I used to play Space Engineers when I was a kid (like 14) and I still have it in my steam library. (I don’t play it anymore as I switched on to playing KSP with almost 2k hours)

Please, please PLEASE tell me when this new game will be released as I don’t have time to watch the vid.
