  1. As a tracker myself I feel so appreciative of the honesty in the episode and letting that tracker talk and all the details along the way. My dog does the same thing. She turns around and looks at me it’s game ever. I’ve seen the steep angle shot a couple times one just 3 weeks ago and the soon as I seen you glassing and it was still on hoof after you shot I knew you where in deep. Sucks man. Keep your head up and lessons learned. The best part is you may save someone from making the same mistake and that’s the silver lining in it all. If you bow hunt long enough it’s gonna happen. It’s not if it’s when.

  2. Nick I’m sorry man. It has happened to all of us, The BEST advice I’ve gotten in this type of situation is “Aim for the exit.” With Adult arrows this will definitely improve your results. Please if you like this start teaching it. Guys need this advice.

  3. Ugh….man so sorry. I said 8 to 12 hours immediately watching the video, bummed me out when I saw the caption 3 hours later, the sign of him standing there at 30 panting should have told you guys that. Liver shot. 100 percent. Sorry that happened, live and learn.

  4. Idk if stopping that deer would’ve been the right call either. That deer could’ve just as easily spooked outta there as soon as he heard a noise that close. I had to move one of my stands after messing up on a really nice deer bc they were just too darn close like that. This was a great video for people to see tho fellas!

  5. Thank y’all so much for sharing this video. Amazing lesson to learn from someone. Those of us who haven’t been able to experience one yet this provides so much insight. Amazing to humble yourself as well. My hearts with you as this is never easy to stomach wounding an animal.

  6. I did that with my second deer, a doe. I got down after 30 so confident to find out I bumped her when I went searching. Then the trail went dry close to a huge standing corn field. I still don’t know if I even hit a vital. And that doe crawled thru vine tunnels 1 1/2” off the ground. Places I think a dog would get tangled up in. I had a hell of a time.
I felt like and still feel like shit about that one. In fact, I kept the arrow as was for reminding me.

  7. This was great. When I was growing up and started hunting I was losing deer I should not have lost after the shots. It was me rushing in or others running dogs to coon hunt at night. Those experiences made me a more patient hunter and a more careful hunter as shot placement with a bow. I love seeing the real side of hunting from this channel. Also my offer still stands for you to hunt my public swamp and have 2 campers ready you can stay in. Thank you all for everything you do. I love learning and seeing from the THP.

  8. Wouldn't a clipped lung definitely be fatal?? I mean obviously yall did your due diligence, no doubt about that ever but man I would think hitting any part of lungs would kill em. But I guess they do have two just like us lol

  9. Appreciate you boys having me and Boots out. Always tough leaving tracks without a deer on the tailgate, but it happens more than 50% of the time. Boots was pretty confident this one was not fatally wounded.

  10. I’m really surprised with their experience after looking at that footage that they only gave that deer two or three hours. Once you bump them up like that, they’re gone in my experience. Looked to be a one lung shot deer with a low exit may be liver. That scenario is 8-10 hrs. I only know cause I’ve made the same mistake. Shot one of the biggest deer my life about 10 feet from the base of the tree. He ran 40 and laid right down. I stayed in the tree for an hour. Thought I saw his head laying over, eased up there. He was walking off the other side of the ridge, never found them again.

  11. It's a decieving shot. It looks easy because it's close. I hunt pretty high up in the tree with my saddle set up where I'm at to get into some cover and I practice this shot for this exact reason. I had a similar situation a few years ago where I clipped a bucks lung. Found him out of pure luck. Blood trail stopped after 100 yards. It was a high angle shot. I feel for him. I enjoy that THP doesn't hide these things and let's these situations be learning experiences for everyone. What happened to him could happen to anyone.

  12. You guys are great, and it's great to see the humble mentality. The entire hunting public crew should be very proud about your production and what you are teaching. It's a breath of fresh air after years of overdone hunting videos wheres the hunters had sponsors on their chest like Nascar drivers. You're production is real and you can feel it. Thank you guys!

  13. First of all I feel the pain Nick, it happens to the best!

I just would like to throw one thing out there, I feel like that may have been the time that a large expandable broad head, like a mega meat or a rage possibly would have saved the day..

  14. Have you considered not putting your stand so high? I understand visibility is better higher up but maybe it’s trading optimal visibility for a less optimal shot.

I’m not being critical at all. I’m just thinking through the situation. Sorry you didn’t get him. I thought the shot looked fatal in slow motion. But whitetails are like women. Fickle, unpredictable, and… tough!😁
