It’s 24% over 5 years. Railroad workers are now 3 years without a contract. They deserve more time off, especially since they have no sick days. They work when they are sick, even through Covid.
Why doesn’t congress force a deal that gives railroad workers paid sick days? It’s that simple.

my neighbor is a train engineer , this guy works more hours than any person i know , he is lucky if he get 12 hrs after he returns home from a trip and this happens 6 days a week , they work these guys like slaves , any one who has a 9-5 just dosnt understand the amount of hours these guys work and with verry little time off , and they are not paid hourly like a normal person . they are paid buy thier trip .longer trip equals more money and less time off .
It is not to much for those workers to ask for 4 days, the politicians take more vacations than they work, the railroad workers deserve those days.

In my opinion, we need a legislative national standard for minimum benefits, and a level playing field approach. This minimum standard is in the categories of fair compensation and fair trade. Hence forth, the minimum standard for PTO is 10 days per year, 5 of these are considered holiday PTO, 5 of these are flex time, sick day or stress day PTO. Holiday PTO needs to be scheduled in advance. Flex PTO needs to be called off on the day of. Unused PTO will be cashed out annually, or on a final paycheck. This PTO would accrue at an hourly rate, starting from hire.
To pay for this, we are going to lower our rate of compensation. So, for example, if PTO is not used, at the end of the year our net pay would be the same, and if the PTO is used, our net pay would be lower by the compensating proportion, however, we would have used those paid days off.
We also have a minimum wage. The minimum wage rate of pay would not be affected. This would be a gain for income earners at or near minimum wage. The compensating reduction in rate of pay would begin to come into effect above the minimum wage point. I think this works out to a reduction in pay of about 3.8% for those above the minimum wage point. 2080 work hours in a year, with 80 hours PTO in a year, paid for with a reduction in rate of pay. PTO might actually look like a deduction on paychecks associated with an accrual of PTO hours.
PTO benefits above this are competitive in nature. This is the minimum standard level playing field for PTO for all labor.
Stop the theoretical nonsense, the President cannot allow union leaders to shut down country because of some past promises he made. Politicians make promises all the time that they don’t keep.
