A Concrete Cutter sometimes called a cut-off saw, masonry saw, road saw, βconsaw,β or concrete saw is a hand-held tool designed to cut concrete, asphalt pavement, rebar, steel and plastic pipe. Typical uses include making openings in walls, floors, manhole structures, road surfaces, and curbs.
We all recognize that battery-powered saws require less maintenance, are easier to start, and forgo the need for the 50:1 fuel mixture.
Our industry is now experiencing an increased focus on the integration of battery-operated equipment across the job site, driving the discussion of gas tools vs. battery-powered tools. For us to even have this conversation we need to agree battery tools need to compete with gas in performance, power, and run-time.
Testing Cordless Cut-Off Saws cutting concrete, rebar, masonry and asphalt.
We decided to perform a Head-to-Head test on four cordless concrete cutters (cut-off saws) to determine which one was the best saw and if these saws could compete with gas saws.
To give clarity to our testing we included the Husqvarna K770 gas saw, as a comparison standard. Husqvarna has been making cut-off saws since 1958, and we chose the Kβ―770 because it is a powerful, all-around concrete cutter with features that make it one of the best saws on the market.
Cordless Cut-Off Saw | Line-Up
Four manufacturers sent their cordless cut-off saws and saw blades.
NOTE β The Hilti cut-off saw is a 12β³ saw but was allowed to participate in this test because it has a feature called OutCut, which allows it to cut at similar depths as the other three 14β³ saws. To understand what OutCut is, the arm of the saw narrows to a smaller point compared to other saws and uses a smaller diameter flange-set for use with steel core diamond blades.

Our Testing Criteria
Our team scored the cordless cut-off saws on eight criteria, each ranked independently, and the βOverall Best Cordless Cut-Off Sawβ was determined using the combined test results.
We include but did not rank Watt-Hours Per Cut, and Best Value categories, but list them here for your own informational purposes. We did NOT include decibel testing since all of these saws are well over the OSHA rating for hearing protection.
Scoring Criteria β Cordless Cut-Off Saws
Concrete Cutting Test β Most lineal feet cut in concrete with embedded rebar [Ave. speed]
Rebar Cutting Test β Fastest cutter of five ganged #4 rebar. [Ave. speed]
Watt-hour per cut β we include this for your reference
Depth of Cut β Saws were ranks for cut capacity
Charging Time β We ranked the time it took to charge depleted batteries.
Ergonomics β Ergonomics is really important to users and an important category to consider when purchasing any power tool.
Features β We discuss stand-out features and team favorites
Size and Weight β Size matters and weight can get cumbersome. We measured the dimensions and scored weight of each concrete cutter as tested (with Batteries)
Best Value β Not ranked.
Price β The kit price at the time of publishing.
Concrete Test Blocks
We poured 3,500 psi concrete blocks, 12β x 24β x 4.5β³ deep. We made the blocks deep enough for all cutter blades to be able to cut all the way through and allow ΒΌβ for any blade wear. Each concrete block also had two embedded # 4 rebar running along its length.

Hey there babies⦠just a finish carpenter here, to learn some facts that are virtually useless to me lol
Husqvarana going t9 win i think, makita 2nd
You guys used canned fuel in that poor Husqvarna. That stuff is absolute crap and robs small engines of power.
Very pricey indeed. Great job with your head to heads , looking forward to the next one .
Shouldve got the Greenworks 82v too π
Excellent video. Really appreciate the time you've invested in this.
Hey Rob great head to head. We appreciate you guys doing these so we can make an informed purchase. Off the subject, what pants are you wearing in this video and which do you recommend for everyday work wear? Also when will be the next work wear head to head? Thanks again to you and the guys testing these.
The manufacturers are morons for requiring their own blades. They're just making their tools look bad.
Cheers buddy use certainty are best out there. Great review will stick the best saw market TS700. 25.6lbs and monster 5000 engine 6800 horse power. Them saws 6-9lbs is crazy with no where near the power makes no sense unless need constantly cut inside buildings the a big plus with no gas fumes.
Excellent review , gave me great information on what to choose even though I am in Milwaukee platform I have to consider Hilti and husqvarna
Another great one π
Happy to see a tool win thats not Milwaukeeπ€£ π―πππππ
Never thought I see Hilti as the cheapest tool in a test! Very impressive efficiency, I'm guessing mostly due to the smaller blade. Would be interesting to see how the others would fare with a smaller blade, shame they didn't let you.
Another plus for husqvarna is that it pushes air through the battery while using. This prevents overheating and extends the battery cycle life. Husqvarna is the only OPE manufacturer Iβve seen doing this.
Who would ever thought that hilti would be the value leader! π
I am very impressed by Hilti performance. I am heavily invested in Makita 40v line, but if I ever need a concrete cutter I will go and take greenworks 82v commercial saw. It just sits in our local retailer office for around 350$ and I got plenty of batteries, and full combo with 2 8ah, charger and saw will go below 1000.(batteries are charging around 2,5 hours minimum if hot)
Hilti and Makita are better for the compatibility with other tools alone. This is a great video though
Best head 2 head comparisons on YT by a longshot. Hilti's warranty is also great for a cut-off tool
Great video. Did you operate the Makita with their recommended blade? That does make a difference.
DeWalt DCS962B didn't make the list here? That's bullshit. We've been using it for 5 years and it's awesome.
Edit: I was mistaken.. Please feel free to put me in my place lol.
You guys are definitely the best out there have been watching your channel for yearsπ.
The quality of the tests are always out of the ball park here. There's a lot of time invested in those videos.
Great content. Thanks a lot.
I thought Milwaukee would crush it. Imo the MX-fuel line is superior to anything else, because it is a big step up in battery size and voltage. That means they have the foundations to continue to produce bigger batteries with more capacity. Other brands will struggle with that because of the small battery-mounts and limited power-delivery in the terminals.
Fuking awesome
Great test, was waiting for this one, really exciting stuff π they all look like really nice tools, can't go wrong with either!
Also I see that mx fuel forge batteries are out, also exciting with the tabless tech.
Genuinely great reivew. Thank you for spending so much time on this. It was educational.
Does Dewalt make one of those?
What I learned from this video is that gas is still the king of this hill
What do you gain by switching from gas to battery? The gas saw was almost as fast as the Husky saw, and the most efficient of all of them, not to mention filling the tank takes seconds vs close to an hour to recharge
Unfortunately you Carnt beat petrol for concrete saw for run time , weight and convenience
It's really a shame they couldn't have been tested with the same blade… It's really tough to have a proper head to head with that variable.
