The story of Beethoven and Napoleon – Ludwig van Beethoven was initially a big fan of Napoleon Bonapart and wanted to dedicate him a symphony. Later the composer felt disappointed with the french commander and retitled his Third Symphony to “Sinfonia Eroica” with the subtitle “Composed to celebrate the memory of a great man”. He even composed a piece in honor of the Duke of Wellington, who defeated Napoleon at Waterloo.
