Batman: Arkham Shadow Is A Modern Masterpiece (Spoiler-Free Review)

Batman: Arkham Shadow is the new Arkham Asylum. Nowhere near a perfect game, but one that has the potential to revolutionize the gaming industry as we know it. I’ve already played through the game twice, 100% completed it, and I still want to go back for more! It’s just that fantastic! Is it going to win game of the year? Probably not, but it’s definitely MY game of the year.

This is a MOSTLY spoiler-free review of Arkham Shadow. There are small details here and there that aren’t common knowledge and could be considered spoilers by some, so if you want to go into this game completely blind, don’t watch this video yet. But, for the most part, the major story beats and secrets in this game are kept that way, so you can watch this video without having to worry about getting spoiled. Just be careful of the comments.

And if you want to get your hands on the game or a system yourself, I have finally have affiliate links that you all can use to support the channel, and get some nice bonuses on top of that!

  1. I didn't think I would ever watch a review that's almost an hour long but I did. Good job!
As for Batman being the 2024 VR GOTY? Probably, but Behemoth is right around the corner and it honestly looks breathtaking.
VR gaming doesn't end with Batman, that $300/$500 headset purchase is just like any other console purchase: There are and will be plenty of games to play.

  2. this has to be some recency bias i dont understand how an imperfect game could also be a masterpiece? the game looks really good but does it hold a candle to an actual masterpiece like arkham city?

  3. Now that this game is out I wonder how long it will take until we see another everything actually wrong video for this game. Haven't played the game (kind of hoping they will port it to steam vr) but from what I've seen it is amazing

  4. Love your videos but that beginning was an insane 180😭
You, like the rest of us, said paying $300 for a single game is crazy and disgusting work. Not even adding that a lot of ppl get motion sick very easily and they’ll lose an opportunity to play this game in a series they love.
Then they fly you out, pay for you to play their demo and game then give you a free MQ3 and now it’s “well worth over $300 for a single game and everyone that doesn’t wanna buy it can screw off and play the 4 games we’ve all beaten half a dozen times already”

Feels like you’re getting so much heat bc you “sold out”.
Had you not been given all of these opportunities and free things would the game still be rated as highly by you? If you had to drop a huge bag just to buy a system like the rest of us, that a lot of us will get motion sick using, would you still rate the game as highly?

That being said… I will be buying a MQ3 and a lifetime supply of dramamine solely for this game and this video def helped me in my decision😭😭
    Keep up the banger videos

  5. Finally beat the game and watched the full video, and this is an amazing review. This is 100% the Arkham Asylum of VR; I also desperately hope we get a sequel, which they can just add more to the gameplay. My only complaint is that I ran into 1 game-breaking glitch that made me have to turn off my headset and restart, but when I did it was completely fixed. I also had to restart the level I was playing a few times, but those bugs will get fixed asap. I would give this game 10/10 as well. I just wanted more, and I can’t think of anything it did wrong that would take away from it. I think with time it might drop to a 9/10, but honestly, I don’t see that happening. I love this game and definitely will replay it with the rest of the Arkham series. If you don’t know what to get for Christmas this year buy a meta 3 and PLAY THIS GAME. All I can say is THANK YOU, CAMOUFLAGE STUDIOS!!!

  6. Dude this game is awesome. I'm not even that upset about it being exclusive to the quest 3 anymore. The way this game captures the exact same vibe from the original four games into vr so perfectly is amazing. To quote homelander: "It was perfect. Everything, down to the last minute details. Perfect." I don't care what anyone says. This game belongs on the pedestal with the other four games. It truly is another proper arkham game.

  9. Mr. Clown Puncher, now that you have a vr headset, will we be seeing more vr content on the channel? Theres some truely amazing vr games with amazing stories, my personal favorite being the 'I Expect You To Die' franchise, which i highly recommend.

  10. I just finished this game and my god it was amazing. The ending was absolutely shocking and everything started clicking in my mind as it was about to be revealed. All the subtle hints here and there were perfect. Enough to pick up on whats happening, but without outright telling you what it is. I can absolutely appreciate it.
Edit: Most of my game was fine. But I had SO MANY CRASHES near the end of the game. Like I would be in for 2 minutes, then it would crash. Besides that. My game ran fine.

  11. Dawg, some of us just don't have the money to get a meta quest. We want to EXPERIENCE the game OURSELVES. Some of us, such as myself, have played through every Arkham game over and OVER, AND played the pile of shit that is Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League. Yes, SSKTJL is new, but it is far from good. Arkham Shadow is GREAT. And we want to EXPERIENCE that. Not watch someone do it for us. Watching videos like these (reviews and thoughts) is generally something people like us would do to determine whether or not we would want to get the game. And a lot of us do because of how amazing it is! How pissed would you be if you have to watch somebody play it instead of playing it yourself, being the fucking Arkham channel you are? I have always loved your content, but I will say it right now, you are just being ignorant now. Some of us do not have the MONEY to EXPERIENCE this game. You got your damn headset for FREE. When it comes to people complaining about this game being VR exclusive, be quiet. What we WANT is for this game to be TRANSLATED and TRANSFORMED into the masterpiece it is FOR ACCESSIBLE PLATFORMS.
Some of us are just broke, or poor, and don't have the money to buy a whole new device for one experience that SHOULD HAVE BEEN accessible in the same way EVERY OTHER ENTRY has.

  12. This is a bigger flop then suicide squad kill the justice league. This game is dumb working with joe chill, harvey dent is the rat king, batman removes his mask at the ending. Barely a 6 hour game. And it a wack vr game with bad graphics. That's not batman bro especially working with joe chill (to say batman doesn't know who he is stupid as well literally shows him in a flash back in origins). Honestly hope they just stop with arkham games. Only actual good thing about this game is the voice acting.

  13. Hey 🙌🏼 I've eaten my words after seeing Batman Arkham videos and the interviews with Ryan Payton and his teams Passion. Before the previews I largely dismissed it as opposed to being mad but damn these guys have shown the arkham universe more respect than Rocksteady did with their recent outing.
This game is getting hate because of Rocksteady's recent failure to deliver to a fanbase that waited for almost a decade but the hate in this game is unwarranted.

All this comes from someone who was very dismissive but this is the first VR game I've ever enjoyed watching (I don't have the money for VR).

This game is a welcome addition to the arkham universe

  14. So um… as someone who doesn't own or know anything of the game outside of this video, can we discuss how the Asylum Harley Quinn tapes might be canon again?
Obviously, we have their interaction in Origins, which initially did the retcon. But considering she's not Harley Quinn in this game, from what I can tell, that might mean the Origins multiplayer has been retconned in order to make Asylum's tapes canon again.

The Asylum Harley tapes always felt off to me with how she speaks to Joker at first, the way there's just that immediate spark with basically no manipulation from Joker along with how she describes him as having a "Wicked Sense of Humour" just didn't hit me as something that should happen with people that are JUST meeting. It always felt to me that there was some history between these two already. Also, she told the interviewer to call her Harley, now being a call back to how Joker called her would now be a nice touch.

But yea, having Harely quit Blackgate to join Arkham to rekindle with Joker could work really well, in my opinion, and if this is what's actually happened then all I can say is I called it.

  15. People have wanted a vr batman game for as long as i can remember vr being popular. So it kinda bothers me how many people are complaining about it being a vr exclusive. Like, is that not what we were asking for? Is it because its tied to the arkhamverse?

  16. I didn't mind it being a VR exclusive game from the start. Shadows is a VR game about Batman. Not a Batman game that became a VR title. My problem lies elsewhere. I was looking forward to the game, I bought a meta and started playing the game.
The game itself is great! I agree with most of what you said. The problem: after about half an hour I had to stop or I would have thrown up. I just can't physically handle VR and I know of many who feel the same way.
Then you have the people who simply can't or won't afford a new console because of a single game. VR is a very small niche in gaming, mainly for these reasons. Even if you don't count the people who simply don't give the game a chance; the likelihood of you being in one of the two groups who can't play the game either for health reasons or for money is high. No matter how much the people who actually play it praise and recommend it.
I hope the game gets the love and recognition it deserves and I'll keep playing it (in lots of little half hour sessions and always feeling dizzy – which really leaves a bad taste), but I understand the people who are upset about the exclusivity. Especially those who are Arkham fans and then belong to the groups mentioned above … but to everyone who can actually play and enjoy it without feeling sick, I hope you have a great time with this great game!

  17. I dislike that the game is VR. No, I don't think saying this is going to get it on PC and console. I'm saying this because it's why I don't want to play, and I am upset with the direction the studio has taken.

  18. This whole comment section is acting like exclusive games for consoles haven’t been a thing for literally forever. People just want to hate meta, even when they do things right. Please stop acting like you don’t know game platforms buy exclusive rights to games to bring more people into their ecosystem. This is a basic and normal thing in the gaming world. Go comment “man I wish it was on Xbox” on the newest Mario and Pokémon game YouTube reviews because that is what you sound like in this comment section.
