Oakland A’s Coliseum Lease Update: A’s Refute ABC-7 Casey Pratt Tweet Of Layoffs, Sac Move

Just over two hours ago, and in the wake of the news related to Tuesday’s meeting between the Oakland Mayor and Oakland A’s, ABC – 7 Anchor Casey Pratt issued a tweet that said the A’s were about to layoff employees and move to Sacramento.

That tweet caused an eruption from a friend of Zennie62Media who’s with the Oakland A’s, who powerfully refuted the tweet as “nothing is happening. no decision has been made That’s way off base.”

And it’s “way off base” because, as another friend of Zennie62Media who’s also a high-placed official told me “they have to come to the (Coliseum) JPA.” And on top of that, everyone knows that Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao’s statement of a deal is not authorized.

The way it’s supposed to go down is the Coliseum JPA makes the lease decision and the City and County vote on it separately. Why Sheng is allowed to take the action she did is a matter of politics. While we have done it before, the fact is the buck stops with the stadium owner. The City and the County never formalized a process that gives Oakland total control.

But the other fact is the person-not-named who fed Mr. Pratt that information is known. Stay tuned for more news on that front of this issue. In all, the Oakland Mayor’s Office is determined to screw this up via its own selfish “Let’s use the A’s to score points against a rich white republican sports owner in an election year” approach. It’s a move that is counter to what city’s do in such cases: treat the sports team owner with the respect due a major economic player in the region.

As someone asked me today “What the heck is going on with Oakland”? The answer is that we have come to the point where politics has overtaken logic and good sense, and with seemingly no end in sight. Each elected official works for objectives that have little to do with the Coliseum and more to do with their own concerns for image.

Stay tuned.

  1. At this point I would be happy if the Athletics move they agree to go back to the historic team colors employed in Philadelphia- those being navy blue and red- while giving Oakland the green and gold of the Oakland Athletics. For example I think we would all agree that a green and gold themed Oakland Oaks expansion team would be a major point of civic pride in the City of Champions.

  2. Recently, he was at the A's new stadium location at the now closed Tropicana hotel and casino claiming the future ballpark doesn't have enough space. He somehow made out of safely, without having to pick up his teeth out of the ground for bashing the city and the residents living there.

  3. Best Case Scenario 4 Oakland Sports:

    – Oakland Seals hockey @ Coliseum Arena

    – – coliseum for concerts and auxillary events like super bowl and soccer and occasional Cal football or whatever
    – Sacramento Athletics
