  1. i'm not far from the derailment in ayer Massachusetts that happened yesterday dumping some garbage cars in the river saying it was non toxic looking like the blue cargo containers seen from EP .it caused a major traffic jam in the twin cities because when 10 intersections are blocked in ayer it reroutes traffic and there was a few other distractions in the area i wont mention but the local news says the train was stopped and was there for some time like days and that's bs it was blocking the town intersections all of a sudden and they say it it just fell over and it was NS engines pulling CSX trains so that means an NS crew was running it when it happened but my point is our local media is lying or told what to say from NS or CSX or some board between oh and the tracks are new the whole area gets revamped time to time. it is an industrial area still with an army base a half mile away. there is a lot more i want to say but some one els needs to look into this and any other incident like this they are doing this stuff every day and no one notices until they have a life threatening chem spill in your back yard.

  2. Maybe these have been happening for years but I don't think I'm alone when I say "I'm not comfortable with Norfolk Southern carrying freight around the country anymore. If you need new tracks, MAKE NEW TRACKS. I don't want to hear another person whining about the environment while all this crap is going on…this is ridiculous.

  3. From what I have seen in several photos & videos from the ground, the track right there had a considerable bank to it. Those double-stacks have a high center of gravity, and if track on a curve has too great a bank to it and those cars are standing still, there is a high likelihood they will tip over. Neighbours had noticed a steep bank (tilt) in the track, which could be a result of settling ground after recent rain.

  4. "What if I was walking along the tracks and there was a massive derailment like that?" said John Ford in the video. Well John Ford, (1) you'd be trespassing on private property. (2) Trespassing on railroad right of way has a very high percentage of injuries and fatalities. (3) You'd definitely be at the wrong place at the wrong time. I really wish editors would at least look at these stories before they are released and all these stupid comments are edited out. As for the trains; our government shut down the safest way to transport Haz-Mat by shutting down the pipelines. Your other choice is to go back to moving that Haz-Mat by rail. Moving product by rail has far more inherent danger to the public, the environment, and the product. If there is an "accident" with a pipeline, it can be easier to contain than a rail accident. another consideration is towns aren't built around the pipelines as towns were built around railroads. A pipeline can be routed outside of urban areas and away from people. The products that are transported are products that everyone of us rely on everyday. You may not use that "Methyl-ethyl-bad stuff" directly, but it's used in, or to make, a product you use everyday. We can't have our cake and eat it, either". Life is a series of give and takes. 15 years on a class 1 RR and 35 years in emergency services. I'm not an expert, but I've been out there and seen a few things. Remember folks, derailments happen daily. Most never release a drop of product. This "spike in derailments" is primarily thanks to derailments being the "Media's Flavor (topic) of the Month". In a few more weeks, the media will have moved onto something else that happens everyday, and stir the isolated, media watchers into a frenzy on a different topic, and NS, UP, CSX, CN, CP, and KCS will go right back to what they do best. Smoke and mirrors! They are all deep in bed with Washington. Washington may act like they are going to do something, but they will never mess with the big railroads.

  5. This used to be the yard for the trains from Mohawk and Mechanicville

This was the old Guilford railroad, but CSX bought them out and the tracks need a lot of work from Mechanicville all through the entire line
