Avoiding one more extinction | AI

Standing on a rocky spur on the Southern Ocean, the Tasmanian forest is home to some of the world’s oldest species of plants and animals.

130 varieties of birds and 25 mammal species have been listed so far. But outside of the sanctuary protected by UNESCO, some of these animals could very well disappear. The threat strikes a chord in Tasmania, as it has already witnessed the extinction of one of its endemic creatures: the thylacine, a marsupial also known as the Tasmanian Tiger.

Today, people come together to protect its cousin, the Tasmanian devil.
