  1. Yeah I’m no fan of DLC. I’ve actually recently gotten back into pokemon, contrary to my username lol. Before I was revisiting SMT for a bit. But SMT isn’t in good hands either…it’ll probably be a slow process before anything ever changes

  2. I think its nearly impossible to pokemon to "die" as a franchise anytime soon, I mean as long as the games and all their other products (TCG, GO, merch, etc.) sell well it will not die, sadly at this point the Pokemon snowball is so big and so fast that is nearly impossible to stop it, no matter how much we try.

  3. I feel much like you Ed, i don't care if Pokemon will improve or not anymore, i realized that there are plenty of other really good quality titles on the genre and that i don't depend on the Pokemon Company to enjoy a good and well made monster taming game, in fact if i was depending on them i would not be able to 😂. I will keep supporting indie games like Cassete Beasts and Nexomon, Pokemon can give me a call when they are interested in making something at that level. Have not bougth SV, and never will, I've seem the reviews an that was enough, i have no interest on putting them to the text myself.

  4. I honestly think Pokemon is too big to fail economically speaking, because even if they continue to release sword and shield levels of bland games they are diversified, meaning their spinoffs and name recognition will keep them alive. It would be nice to force them to be competitive again somehow, but it's like an Nvidia situation where I don't see that happening but instead those who try to compete will just be eating the table scraps from them.

  5. Funny enough with me i actually love the games. The only issue i have had is stutters that still seem to exist. The graphics are whatever to me as that make no difference in how great a game is or not. I just with the games were slightly more stable.

  6. I don't know if Pokemon will ever die out because just like Call of Duty, and other huge games and media franchises, there will always be people who are willing to consume the lowest effort media as long as they slap a recognizable name on it, and there will always be more children to use as a syphon to get more money. I also believe that if Pokemon were to start going downhill (sales wise) Nintendo would start creating more false hype for games using shills and nostalgia to keep the franchise relevant.

  7. I believe that the francize will remain around in some form for a very long time. I do believe that the mainline games are doomed to apathy and erosion vs nostalgia till they fall into mediocre flavor of the month games. I have only enjoyed Archeus of the recent titles and haven't cared for a single mainline since gen 5. I have been here for the entire lifespan of pokemon and I am interested in how it will progress and continue. I have always felt that the Monster Rancher titles and Dragon Quest Monster titles were superior overall, but I do recognize the simplicity in pokemon has and will keep it at the top until the greed of Gamefreak decays all innovation.

  8. One of the best points you can make in discussions around this topic is that Pokemon fans aren't Monster collector fans, they are Pokemon fans.

  9. I have lost all faith in Nintendo and Game Freak's ability to put out a "Triple A" Pokemon title. All they manage to do is charge "Triple A" prices for subpar quality. I used to get angry over seeing endless reskins, lazy remakes, and the same old models and animations used from the Gameboy days. Now, I just don't care. It is what it is, I'll just play something else.

  10. parents are never going to stop buying pokemon for their kids birthdays so i dont think it's going to die any time soon. that said, as an adult fan who grew up with it, i'm absolutely apathetic about new entries in the video games. i have my memories and i create fan art. i replay old games on emulators. whatever is happening with these mediocre games isn't relevant to me anymore. i want the games to be good, but i've given up on hoping for it.

  11. I think Pokemon could die, but probably won't any time soon. Pokemon is still very much thriving in pretty much every aspect. I don't think Pokemon would ever be "killed" by another game. I agree that apathy is what would kill Pokemon. In order for a game to "kill" Pokemon people would actually have to agree about what needs to change about Pokemon to make for a better "killer" game and that's incredibly unlikely to happen. Everyone wants Pokemon to be better but few agree on how (other than performance). Few people honestly possess the meta-cognition or meta-emotion to even have an engaging conversation on how a game could be better and why it would be objectively better. When people critique art they are rarely cogent enough to warrant listening to.

  12. I just ignore those hater, don't even read them.
As for pkmn since Arceus and Violet/Ecarlate, they hook me up again on the franchise (especially Arceus). So i'm hopeful to have decent title release from them.
They also see that other franchise within the monster catching genre are growing their playber base more and more and amp up their game.
At bigger rate than pkmn so it makes the "war" between all those games really interesting to follow.

  13. I've had a history of buying every Pokémon game just for the sake of it because I enjoy the franchise, but BDSP finally sealed the nail in the coffin for the remakes for me at least.

Scarlet and Violet were honestly the most fun I've had with a main series game since BW2, but I do feel the apathy sinking in.

I want to love it again, but I no longer see it happening.

  14. Tbh,I don't want Pokémon to die for the sole reason that, over time, the fan game scene has become INCREDIBLE!
Be it because of the fans wanting to make such a game on their own or the haters wanting to make the Pokémon experience they always thought they deserve: the fangame scene is better than ever and will only improve,so…for all I care, mainline Pokémon can slowly fade out of my existence lol,I am covered with new games!

  15. I think you nailed it with this one. The series has gotten stagnant over the past 3 gens. I got back into it and with gen 6 and enjoyed those games despite their shortfalls but 7 made me just kind of meh. I didn’t have a switch when 8 came out so kind of forgot and then just all the quality issues made me not care about it.

The indie devs are doing higher quality for a third of the price. Even with some of the issues cassette beasts or Siralim have had on switch they’re much more forgivable when it’s an indie dev and a small team at a lower price.

I hate saying it but I barely care about Pokémon anymore because they’ve stopped caring and are taking the besthesda approach.

  16. i feel like pokemon fans will still thrive like look at all those fan games i feel like if poekmon died they would just get more ideas and try to bring back pokemon hype

  17. I do agree with this point of view. Expecting a single game to somehow 'kill' the whole franchise is unrealistic. As with all products on the market, regardless of what it is, if the competition grabs too much of your market share, you will notice a reduction in revenue. This holds for video games, cars, candy, everything. With the pokemon franchise holding such an enormous presence in the market, this would be a very long process and has to happen at multiple angles. The games are not the only product they offer, so many different factors must come together to actually push them off the market as a whole.
