Jim gave me these lyrics backstage at a Blue Öyster Cult show in 1979. I liked the lyric and thought I might write some music for it. Allen Lanier stepped in and said Jim is planning to release his own album, and I should shelve the idea of using this lyric. Jim never recorded this lyric on his own album, and it sat in my attic for 30 years! Jim Carroll sadly passed away in 2009. In 2010 I was searching for inspiration for a Blue Coupe album and this lyric suddenly appeared. I think Jim would have liked this version. It was recorded by Blue Coupe on the Tornado on the Tracks album with Robby Krieger from the Doors on slide guitar.
