Andrew Hastie calls on Richard Marles to ‘stand up and explain’ Taipan helicopter decision

Shadow Defence Minister Andrew Hastie has called on Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles to “stand up and explain” to the Australian people why he has chosen not to give Ukraine access to Taipan helicopters.

His comments come as Australia has formally rejected a request from Ukraine to access Australia’s fleet of the now-retired Taipan helicopters.

The government said none of the aircraft were in “flying condition” and are being dismantled.

“Richard Marles, the Deputy Prime Minister, needs to stand up and explain to the Australian people why he has chosen not to give the Taipan helicopter to the Ukrainian people,” Mr Hastie told Sky News Australia.

“Ukrainians are in for the fight of their lives.

“We need to step up, we need to support them, they’ve asked for the helicopters.”

  1. Australia has now supplied $46 million in humanitarian aid since the conflict escalated following October 7 attacks by Hamas, which has been designated a terrorist organisation by the federal government.

  3. Andrew, your moral values and ethics are in question here. Study the Israel – Palestinian History of 76 years thoughly before you come before the Australian Public to speak! You stand to support Israel with its Genocidal War and crimes against humanity. Their opression of Palestinian lives have been very evident from 1948….for many years prior to the existence of Hamas. In trying to underscore Labor, you are showling your lack of moral principles and lack of humanity in your character. Australia doesn't need Politicians like you!
