Amira Willighagen – Nell Fantasia (live) – Margarita Kid Reacts!

I can’t say much technically about this style of music, but what I can say is WOW – just beautiful! The fact that Amira is only 12 is just an afterthought for me really; this is beautiful no matter what age you are!

  1. Great reaction! Let's answer in parts. The musical genre here is crossover, a kind of middle ground between classical and pop, with inspiring lyrics, orchestra and choir present. In the movie The Mission (religious mission), with Robert De Niro and Jeremy Irons, there are no vocals. Years later, a collaborator of Morricone's wrote the lyrics and crossover singer Sarah Brightman popularized it by singing it. Amira is a born super soprano and is classically trained. So for her, singing non-operatic genres is like cutting through butter with a hot knife. She has over a billion views on YouTube, with dozens of videos on various channels, 90 of which have over a million views each. Since the age of 9, she has donated half of everything she earns to her foundation to help children in need in South Africa.

  2. A great reaction again, I suscribed. Amira's last high note was insane…
By the way, Ennio Morricone's soundtracks are almost always either purely instrumental pieces, or vocalises without lyrics. The only exception I found was the Ballad of Sacco and Vanzetti, performed by Joan Baez, in 1971. Of course, if Amira had been able to sing fifty years ago, it would have been a duet… 😊

  3. This performance was in November 2016 – actually, I should say "performances", because there were 11 performances. Watch the bracelet on her right wrist – it vanishes and re-appears, showing that this video was made from multiple performances. The explanation is that she sang this song in July, at the "Classics is Groot" concert, and was so popular that Coleske Artists had to increase the number of performances of "Afrikaans is Groot" from nine to eleven when it was announced that Amira would appear; her parents had to bring a tutor from The Netherlands to ensure that she kept up with her schoolwork.

  4. Great reaction once again & still subscribed. You wanted some recent performances, so I’ve listed a few below together with the corresponding age for your benefit. Also, as a matter of interest, Amira has commenced her Batchelor of Music at the Pretoria University. Anyway, the performance are as follows.
    …. … “ Amen “ at age 19
    …. … “ Down From His Glory “ at age 29
    …. … “ When You Wish Upon a Star “ at age 17
    Cheers Graeme

  5. Sarah Brightman loved the music and thought it would made a good song. She wrote to Morricone asking permission to use it. He flatly refused, but she pestered him for months and he finally agreed. Chiara Ferrau composed the words and Sarah was the first to sing it. If you would like to hear something more recently from Amira, HGT All Stars invited her back 10 years after her original audition. The best video is the full segment which included the panel's comments and biographical sketch. She was 19 then and is 20 now, studying music at Pretoria University. She also recently sang in the Phantom of the Opera with Ruhan du Toit. See the Lexus Pop Classics version.

  6. With 59 million views in the last few months 15 year old Emma Kok is one I suggest to listen to. Just like with Amira, Emma Kok was chosen by conductor Andre Rieu to perform with him and his orchestra. Emma Kok has a paralyzed stomache, she has to be on feeding tubes 22 hours a day. That she can sing like that is a miracle. Emma Kok is Dutch, cant speak French but sang a French song perfectly. She learned the French song phonetically. Andre Rieu asked Emma to go on worldtour with him. So at 15 she quit going to her regular school, started traveling the world with Andre Rieu's orchestra and has already performed in many countries. They do 100 concerts a year so Andre Rieu is the 6th best selling artist in the world in a lineup of Rolling Stones, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber. Emma quit her regular school but is now doing worldschool traveling the world and performing in many countries. Emma Kok sings the song Voila with Andre Rieu and his orchestra. Just search for Emma Kok Voila Andre Rieu. Listen to the Dutch and English introduction of Emma Kok by Andre Rieu it is important. P.s 2. The song Voila came in second place at the Eurovision contest. The song Voila is not opera like Amira sang. Voila can be qualified as a chanson.

  7. This beautiful aria with music by Ennio Morricone from the film “The Mission,” and lyrics added by Chiara Ferraù is about an imaginary world of peace and harmony. I presume the implication is that this is the fantasy of the missionary which provokes enormous irony. The “mission” of the missionary is to persuade the indigenous people to abandon their cultural traditions and superstitions in favor of the missionary’s culture and superstitions. Europeans generally regarded indigenous peoples to be “savages” in need of “salvation.” So the fantasy is presumably about a world of European culture and superstition, rather than of any sort of diversity or inclusion.
The first 2 minutes is another Ennio Morricone composition called "The River" with the voices of the Mzansi Youth Choir, then Amira comes on stage for Nella Fantasia.
