It doesn't matter how many times I see this episode, when Rodney says the word 'miscarriage', my heart drops like a stone every single time.
The absolute brilliance of John Sullivan's writing in this show is how he can take you from laughing to crying and back again in seconds.
Compare this to the woke drivel that we're subjected to now on TV & in the movies…I was 100% born in the wrong era. This show is brilliant….pathos & comedy played to perfection.
As a woman who has gone through a miscarriage, I can honestly say that from my own perspective, I wouldn’t want my partner to be strong for me. I feel that you both have to fall apart (at least a little) together so that you can rebuild together. The Dads’ grief is just as important as the Mums’, holding it in does you no favours in the long run as it stifles your ability to grieve in the future…this too I can attest to by experience as my ex wasn’t a very nice man and so right from the hour and a half drive home from hospital on the day the miscarriage was confirmed, I was shouted at for crying, made to feel that my grief wasn’t valid and that I was ridiculous for feeling the need to do it. That coupled with me suppressing my own grief when my Mum died years prior to my miscarriage when I was in my teens, so that I could look after my Dad throughout his borderline suicidal stage of grief, means that I just don’t know how to. When my Grandparents died I was sad and I miss them still but I barely shed a tear nor showed any emotion. I feel that it has left me with a degree of detachment from my own feelings and I wouldn’t wish that for anyone.
Take care of yourself AND your girlfriend as she should take care of herself AND you and although sadly loss doesn’t get easier to cope with, it just becomes more familiar, it doesn’t mean that we cannot remember with love and a smile.
Sorry for your loss Neil. This must have been a tough episode for you.

I feel your pain brother me and my wife have had several miscarriages and they dont get easier regardless if it's one or 1000 it hurts like the first. This episode always hurts when I see it as when I first seen it I never knew the pain Rodney and Cassandra felt. It's an expensive club to be in that no one wants to be a member.
