This story was confusing. Like several arcs mashed together.

The Fact that information structure among galactic species (is?) Universal. The fact that any real ability to understand a species nature (is?) Universal.

I like how humans are long dead, holograms, talking from the past, have ships for a last ditch effort against an attack suddenly be a preventative measure against a threat that might attack, then a trap, be alive again random noise.
