Happy Friday! Here’s an idea if, like us, you’re in the dead of winter – curl up with a good book, a hot beverage, and our latest drop, Phil Collins’ 1984 #1 hit, “Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now). This was one of seven number ones Phil had during his solo career and it has an interesting history.
The music was originally written for Phil’s debut album in 1981, but he liked it the least of his songs and mothballed it. Come 1983, while still in Genesis, Columbia Pictures came to Phil asking if he’d be interested in contributing to the film, so he dragged the “Odds” music out, added some lyrics, and then became one of the most popular crooners this side of Mars! Collins’ inspiration came from a recent divorce from his first wife and with that, Phil became a lyricist. The rest, they say, is history.
We hope this tune plays a positive role in your weekend enjoyment. It’s a newer song from a popular female singer who must love the water. See ya!
