  1. Alternate title:

"When a Casual Player wants to Dictate the Direction of a Game's Story – A Video Essay"

But for real, just because you want the game to be only scary scary robots doesn't mean that's what other people want. The lore has kept a large community of players entertained and hooked for years. Your "get rid of (everything)" rant portion of the video just made me sad.

  2. the whole "a copy afton's consciousness being stored in circuit boards" from HW is such a stupid lore idea to me

like, why do we have to introduce a concept into the lore we've never seen before just to shoehorn in a character that should be dead?

  3. I think fnaf 6 ending was amazing and that should of been the end of Afton though i disagree with you about the lore not being needed.
The lore is what made this game because most people wanted to find out more and got hooked on anything that could give more details.
What would of been cool would of been making one game that has you be William Afton from the start of the murders and finishes with him burning in fnaf 6.
That way the timeline and lore is confirmed finally while getting darker as the goal would be killing his victims and all his nasty deads while trying not to get caught.
Would be a good way to completely wrap the story up and leave the franchise open to a whole new story

  4. I feel like fnaf constantly re-using Afton is, in a way, the same scenario as Disney re-using Palpatine in the sequels. Both franchises need to find something else, another part of the story in order to present themselves to their fullest. Aftons reveal at the end of Security Breach didn't get a reaction out of me because he is nothing new or spectacular to the story, I wish they'd let him die at the end of fnaf 6. Just my honest opinion, yalls are allowed to have your own opinions on this matter.

  5. The thing is that the story will never change to something less complicated because Scott himself said that he's a si-fi writer at heart, and the only reason that William isn't actually an alien from another planet where they drink remnant from fountains, is because he had to stop himself from going too far. Biggest reason being fans and their feedback, where they were pointing how story is getting a bit too crazy.

Scott IS a kind of person that would put a pizza locations on the moon and make all equipment si-fi. He's just stopping himself from doing that.

  6. I love the fact that there is a world bigger than the games, and the original trilogy of novels was basically all I wanted out of non-game FNaF content. Reamnant, the illusion discs, the confirmation that having silver eyes meaning that the robots were posessed, the new human characters… It was all exactly what I wanted – a world bigger than Freddy's and its animatronics, but that still tied back to the original story in general. I'm primarily a theorist, so the thing that really gets to me is the lore, but FOR FUCK SAKE, STOP COMING BACK, AFTON!

We need new antagonists, and Vanny was the perfect candidate – a follower of Afton who, yes, was following instructions from him, but that is still very much herself in the execution. It wouldn't have made sense for her to not bring William Afton back, we know he craves immortality, but I would have loved for him to just be this larger than life shadowy figure to whom Vanny can come back to for guidance, but that isn't active in the new stories. Now THAT would have been cool.

  7. Bruh William Afton breaks it's world building just the sake of extending the FNAF franchise. I get why he end up being a animatronic on FNAF 3 and 6 because it's some kind of a karma for him but turning into a virus….. that's seems unnecessary, Cassidy and the Puppet needs to rest just end the story even though the FNAF franchise will start fade into irrelevancy over the years. Let's just hope it won't end up like Star Wars.

  8. There are two big problems with this that I can see I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure the main reason why William will always come back is because if he didn't the series would have to end there is no other instigating conflict fazbear entertainment is cursed because of William's remnant shenanigans the animatronics are powered by the souls of dead kids that want revenge on him meaning if they did and William died and we as the player won then there would be no way for the story to continue that wouldn't feel like a cringey ay we added a completely new villain to take over the series who has no connection to anyone and anyway but they're gonna do it the other problem that I feel is the most problematic for the series is people Eva don't realise or simply ignore the fact that the animatronics are evil antagonists like you said people fell in love with them after the first game which is fine but then they began to become sympathetic with the animatronics the inclusion of Afton and the missing children story only added to that because then the story became less you're trying to survive a bunch of bloodthirsty robots and more oh no but that evil William Afton killed these poor innocent children as the same children were jump scaring and killing more than William again that pushed the idea that William is the only "bad guy" making it impossible for him to die because there would be no antagonist because William dies the kids are at peace series is over so William can never die there was no room left for any other character to take that position both because of the story and because the fandom doesn't recognise bloodthirsty robot if William were to die and we wanted to continue fnaf there could only be 2 options that could replace him even then probably wouldn't be the same those two options are Vanny(personally I'm not leaning towards this option because if William actually died then she wouldn't be under his control anymore but I wanted more than one option) and the children themselves and that wouldn't work because of my second point so you can see the predicament Scott and steel wool are currently in and I secretly believe this is the reason why will has ridiculous plot armour

  9. I love how people slowly waking up to Scott Cawthon bs.

Maybe one day people will realise Scott Cawthon bs his way to glory, he NEVER had "deep lore" planned, the only probably mystery he planned(and likely retconned) was the bite of 87, and he likely retconned it in Fnaf 4.
And don't get me started on inconsistencies and unanswered answers or contradictory plot points.

TL;DR I'm glad people are finally critiquing FNAF story stuff, because oh boy does it need a lot of critique

  10. I think the iconic "I always come back" is more like a threat right now.
No matter what William will find new way to hunt FNaF universe.
William killed someone? Now they gonna terrorize some night guard.
William chlid got killed? Sweet, now his offspring gonna hunt you.
Oh, William is trapped in Springbonnie? No problem, mate. He's now a ghot trapped in furrsuit. Which is kinda ironic.
Y'know what, William survived being burned. And you must face it one more time.
You probably understand what I trying to say. William is genius and he or consequences of his deeds will always hunt FNaF universe.
This man make himself truly immortal.

  11. They should have killed off afton at the end of fnaf 6 and continued the fnaf series with a new antagonist or they should have ended afton in fnaf 3 and made enard the new villan in fnaf sl but its too late now. the fact that the souls are still inhabiting the animotronics in sucuerity breach makes Henry's speech at the end of fnaf 6 way less satisfying and badass. afton is starting to get boring. mabye it would be fine if he didnt die the same way every time. mabye they're scared to make a new villan because afton is already too iconic.

  12. Ima be honest. I agree but i do think that the whole afton mystery was good, only because at the time it was interesting. But they really done shouldve left him at Pizzaria Simulator cuz that was just a badass ending. And yea sure making him glichtrap was fine to introduce Vanny, but now that they introduced Vanny and made her literally the most underwhelming character ever with nothing scary about her ( despite being a LITERAL child killer) , i wished SB had more aout the killings of Vanny. Cause ima be real honest i dont care all that much about her backstory.

  13. Nah i liked the lore. Plus, it wouldve gotten boring with no story. Should've just ended at the 6th game tho. This should've been about a different antagonist, different characters. And actually scary. The older games, atlough starting to lose that, were still scary. But this one? It just wasn't…. Idk feels like they scrapped everything and re-made the story last minute.

  14. My personal headcanon ties in with the Squimpus fnaf tapes- William died in the fire in the fnaf 3 pizzeria. In my mind, the real story ends with fnaf 4- that stretches across fnaf 5 (sister location) and 6 (Pizza simulator) if i'm feeling generous, but at this point, in my mind, William died in 2008 (fnaf 3).
They took this super creepy child murderer and turned him into a comical supervillain.

  15. I think that the line of "I always come back" worked once as a nice 😮 moment but it is getting worn out. i admit, when i saw afton in security breach i got kinda excited? but quickly realized that god they need to retire this man. as others have said, i think him burning at the end of pizzeria simulator was a nice end and i liked ucn being his "hell", but that's where it rly should have ended. as old man consequences said, "leave the demon to his demons".
vanny getting influence from afton's actions would have been a nice way to start a new chapter of fnaf while having ties to the old story, but that should have been the only mention of him in sb.

  16. I really enjoyed the afton storyline of the original games, and all the emphasis on him makes the final speech of Henry so special that I cry when he talks about his daughter. But… then they sorta undid that payoff cause he's only technically in hell.

  17. Fnaf should have ended at UCN

not Afton's story, not the original story, i mean the whole saga, to continue after that destroys everything the previous game built up, Henry's speech doesn't feel the same now that we know Afton didn't die, the springs going off with afton inside doesn't feel the same now that we know thay afton survived somehow, it's just not the same

it's not an unexpected twist to see afton survive once again, it's just infuriating

  18. Im a story nerd in games.
And I totally disagree to this guy and his videos.
Im 25 yrs old now and playing games since Im 6 yrs old.
    For my Opinion,
You can say a game is a good game is not from it's gameplay,
The Story makes it a good game.
I really hate people only play games base on their gameplay.

    What a KID

  19. I think it would be a good idea to let him have an actuall boss fight
(not like the one in security breach, where you don't even really fight him)
and ending him in a way where people would think he can come back again,
    BUT he never does!
Afton will only get referenz in the future games or appear in flashbacks(or similar things)
so theorist will always wonder, if Afton will come back once more or not.
Like one last mystery about him
(apology my english is not the best)

  20. I never had a problem with purple guy, but then after pizzeria simulator he shouldn't have came back, pizzeria simulator had a great ending and I'm not saying the games should have ended there but Afton should've

  21. I'd consider Pizzeria Simulator the true ending to the original story, maybe even Ultimate Custom Night.
Henry, along with Michael and everyone else, gets swallowed by the flame and their souls finally get peace, while William gets sent to basically a neverending nightmare of constantly dying to animatronics cause the spirit of Golden Freddy is too vengeful to rest.
Him turning into a virus kinda ruined the story, and the ending of Security Breach was a disappointment. Would've been better if Vanessa was the true antagonist of the game, inspired by William's doings.

  22. I knew he was coming back in some way or another in security breach, but actually SEEING the burned remnants of this old man that just WILL NOT DIE was… disappointing, I was angry that he came back AGAIN, that all that work in pizzeria simulator was just, gone.
I was hoping that security breach would be the start of something new, a big, almost open world map, which had it's own misteries and could've been so much more and just… wasn't, because it all tied back to Afton AGAIN, I just want him to rest, in peace or in hell, I don't care anymore.
