  1. CORRECTION: The custodian guard damage buff isn't quite as good as I'd thought – the boosted version only applies if THEY are on an objective they control. A little less useful as less likely to trigger it on their melee. Still solid though!

  2. So my question is, if you have a squad of wardens and a squad of base guard, a on foot shield captain, and a blade captain, how would you suggest attaching characters, because I am thinking put the blade champion in the wardens since the wardens would probably have a better chance keeping him safe as the champion charges across the whole dang map in order to just knock over priority targets, while the guard will hopefully be able to make good use of having a pile of free stratagems. Thoughts?

  3. Really upset I have a three man squad of shields that’s kind of useless now. I think they’re worse then spears and now I’d have to mix and match just to field them. Maybe I’ll add one to a big brick of guard but I can’t see myself using them to much. Also I guess my three terminators went from 3 squads down to 1 because I can’t field them individually. I think custodies are looking strong but my army just had a huge wrench thrown into it.

  4. I see a big lack in high Strength weapons for plastic custodes. Looks like a big setback if you have to fight against any bigger armored threats above a Rhino and having to wound them on 5s and 6s.

  5. Custodes are going to have a lot of difficulty with anything that has high toughness. A few things with S9 weapons but very little with anything above that. Lets hope we have some good forge world weapons.

  6. Internal balance just seems off like usual – shields are pretty lame and swords are crap. Axes are way worse. Etc. simplifying Custodes seems a bit mad given how few models they had. I also don’t understand why the FW models can’t just be rolled into the same index/data sheets

  8. After Custodes and Grey Knights, I'm really starting to wonder what GW's logic is with condensing melee weapons into single profiles. For far too long, we've had one obvious best profile that pretty much everyone took. My Grey Knights army has changed its primary melee weapon every single edition since 6th because they can't seem to understand that not all profiles are created equal. What bothers me is which weapons are condensed and which ones aren't. Daemon hammers being lumped into Nemesis weapons is insane (though not as bad as "heirloom weapons"). The partial disappearance of the lightening claw is almost as confusing. If they want to reduce the number of pointless options, why do we even still have axes and spears? It's honestly not a distinction that ever needed to be made, and they clearly don't understand how their own profiles work. As many other comments here have said, the axe is simply worse in almost every situation, but what would the axe profile have had to be in order to make sense? Your standard infantry weapon has good strength, good AP, and D2. If the axe is supposed to be for fighting elite, high-wound units (as the D3 and exclusivity to terminators and wardens would imply), you need all of those things to be viable in that role. They just don't have enough knobs to tweak to have two free, equally good, but different-purpose weapons, at least without covering them in special rules. The axe/spear choice just seems so bizarre, considering that they decided that pretty much every other melee weapon in the game just used a shared profile.

  9. Kinda a silly question, because I'm sure it doesn't but unless specified otherwise do some of these stratagems apply to vehicles as well? In some it specifies infantry but in others it just says adeptus custodes units and excluding anathema psykana units are not specified.

  10. The Castellan Axes could have worked by staying WS 2+, or else had the Devastating Wounds special ability, though I think WS 2+ would be the more balanced option and Devastating Wounds the more flavorful. As they are right now, you have it right, good sir – guardian spears all the way! Which note leaves me with the headache of replacing my Castellan Axe models.

  11. So for Trajanns Captain General ability it says ignore any modifiers to the unit he's leading except saving throws. Now does that in clue Invulnerable saves? Example a unit has a ability to ignore Invulnerable saves. Or a unit has a ability to ignore FNP Would Trajanns ability nullify that? Because they aren't saving throws sooo??
