  1. bbtm, starboy and mdm are all not essential imo. i would still recommend listening to starboy and mdm though, just keep in mind they aren't the same quality as the rest of his projects and you will probably enjoy it with that mindset

  2. bob if you have apple music you should listen to the weeknd’s radio show “MEMENTO MORÍ” he has a episode dedicated to kissland where he plays tracks that inspired the album and also plays some unreleased songs from that era. it’s a really good listen and really adds to the base album

  3. The amount of hate Beauty Behind the Madness is getting is absurd. It’s possibly his most mainstream but it’s definitely one of my favorites, even if you don’t react to it you should at least give it a listen

  4. A mixtape is way more common pre streaming. A mixtape Is a album that's not for sale…….the weeknd wasn't signed when he made the trilogy they were released on his own website…..with Spotify it doesent happen as much because everything is posted there. These days the only mixtapes are the legacy ones. Like Lil Wayne's Dedication series for example(he has the biggest mixtape catalog by FAR) he releases them every few years now and fans just know it's a mixtape.Lil Wayne actually has multiple cult classic mixtape series. There's the dedication series(1 through 6) and the Drought is over mixtapes(1 through 6). With the standouts from each series being The Dedication 2 and the drought 3

  5. SO PUMPED!!!! Since you love the "world building" and "aethetics" Abel creates, you're gonna LOVE After Hours. When you do the After Hours music videos (for us Patreon folks) you gotta watch them in this order! The videos lead right into the next! (They're not the order the songs are in the album)

    1. Heartless
    2. Blinding Lights
    3. Until I Bleed Out
    4. Snowchild
    5. Blinding Lights – Live on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
    6. After Hours (Short Film)
    7. In Your Eyes
    8. Too Late
    9. Save Your Tears

  6. BBTM and Starboy are still great albums though and worth the listen. Starboy is clearly the most “mainstream” type of sound and is a little bloated but if you go into it with 80s party vibes you’ll for sure enjoy it. Just don’t go into it expecting a super deep project. It’s definitely a “nightclub” soundtrack. And there’s a few heavy hitter songs. Also, BBTM is basically the pop version of Trilogy imo

  7. i think its ok to skip BBTM and starboy, but definitely listen to my dear melancholy’s ep before getting into after hours

you can see his most personal music before he goes into that last trilogy. plus its so short anyway

  8. I’d expect a summer release with this next album. Going into After Hours and then Dawn FM is definitely the best way for you to go at this point. You can go back to the middle albums after if you want. They aren’t as impactful as the others but they’re great pop albums with a few stellar tracks. And then my dear melancholy is a great little ep, def worth a listen!
