Absolutely Maidenless: Explaining The Elden Ring Drama

If Ubisoft made Elden Ring, Stonesword Keys would be purchasable for $1.99 a pop.

  1. You gotta love the massive amount of leftist projections on those websites.
It's only those evil far/alt right nazis invading gaming, hobbies and individualist culture and filling it up with politics, real world garbage and insulting people.

Now, where did we see that? Oh, yes! Because it came from their playbook. "Claim your enemies are doing what you have been doing."

  2. Ahhh, THE intro… 😉 Seriously, though, It's kinda heartening to see how slowly, more and more groups in society are leaving the so called "progressives" behind by, well, actually progressing… which they can't.

  3. Borderlands writer is mad that people like subtlety and intrigue way more than intentionally loud, stupid and annoying garbage that says nothing about the setting or the characters spewing it. It feels like some 4channer going for low hanging fruit by making up some shit about the studios and devs he doesn't like, except that it's real and these people really are this silly.

  5. Hot take: Elden Ring is a solidly above average game but nowhere close to 9/10 10/10 territory.

Really good early game but it is probably like two to three times longer/bigger than it should be. After about the 50 hour mark i cannot remember meeting a new enemy. Bosses are reused ad nauseam.

The absolute dick sucking for elden ring gets old. These devs here are just whining but imo the “Elden Ring is perfect and any player pain point is intentionally put there by the giga brain From Soft dev” is equally annoying

Edit further thoughts: imo this would be my “best souls game” if they ditched the open world and reused bosses.

The proggs can fuck off as usual of course

  6. I found the story of darksouls to be mediocre at best, sekiro was passable, and elden ring is somewhere in the middle. But the general gameplay of something actually challenging while giving you the freedom to fight how you want is unlike most other games

  7. Those who don't get the love; didn't out the love into the game, instead putting it into themselves. Nobody loves lazy narcissists like the narcissists themselves.

  8. This whole video reminded me of another online video game called The Secret World that also was different, didn't hold your hand, you had to dig in and investigate to understand the lore, you had to build your character from the ground up in whatever way you want, etc.

It was f'ck great but unlike FromSoftware it's developer, Funcom, caved in to the "gaming normies" that weren't dedicated players and only played enough of the game in order to make a video reviews trashing it for being different, not being a WOW clone and basically all the same reasonand most of the same things Elden Ring is being trashed for.

Worst of all they made a "soft reebot" of the game called The Secret World Legends that basically pandered to every complain that the non players of the game were crying about. You can imagine how the dedicated fans reacted and the current state of the game from that. The channel Ceronesthes made two very well made and funny videos, one on each iterations of the game, explaining the whole debacle of the situation.

  9. That Gearbox tweet about the lore definitely isn't wrong. Dark Souls games don't have really a story, there's a just a ton of lore that doesn't tie into gameplay that's usually left open ended to speculate over and it's very overrated.

  10. "It won't tell you where to go and it won't hold your hand"

Yes it does. It literally always tells you where to go. It's the closest I've seen a game get to holding the players hand.

  11. i still have a hard time to process the "legend of zelda and soul series have gone open world"; for legend of zelda, the counter argument is obviously ocarina of time, i don't think that we're that far apart in age and i will bet you discovered the game between 8 and 15 years old(double or nothing on between 8 and 12), and at that time, it was a testimony to how big hyrule was that you need a horse to travel from one part to another, there is also the one on wii where you tranforme into a wolf (didn't play tat one as much but i remember it was huge too).
as for soul serie, i would make the argument that for the first one, the map wasn't open world by modern standart but there is a lot of transversal passages and liberty of movement from the moment you get out of the tutorial area. of course there was limitation by enemy dificulty but by essence, you can go anywhere from the first fire; do you want to go underground ? you can; is it dificult ? fu…….explore around and find out. to me it was already pretty open.
as for a lot of words, i think the definition of open world has shifted mostly to acomodate what another video maker on youtube call "the grey soup" of nearly identical games with just diferent flavour but with the same core gameplay loop (mostly, the ubisoft formula (yes, that's how i loop back to the video above)).

  12. You used a lot of fancy, eloquent words. I simply want a game that is fun to play, not that it conforms to somebody's (even if that somebody is a lot of somebodies) notion of what a good game is supposed to be like.

  13. I'll be honest I'm kind of tired of hearing about Elden Ring. Has nothing to do with the quality of the game or anything, just people won't shut the fuck up about it for 5 seconds.

I get it, it's probably amazing, just tiresome to hear about

  14. 8:51 Uh…the left does not favor equality, they favor EQUITY, and those are two very different things. Equality means everyone starts the game w/ the same basic equipment. Equity means no matter how amazing you are or how much you suck, everyone still gets the same gear by the END of the game. So if you suck, you still get the Golden Super Special gear and a gajillion gold or whatever, and so does the person who's amazing at it. That is "equity."

And dear Lord, I wish the left valued reason! What they value is The Tribe. You must accept the "correct" opinions and play the game the way they tell you, no matter how illogical or un-intuitive they are.

  15. The only way I would say that video games (well-designed ones, anyway) are inherently "right-wing" would be in that they are merit-based. If you work hard, put in the effort…and grind like crazy, you get the cool armor or the OP weapon, or you can beat the final boss way easier than if you didn't grind all those side-quests.

But some people want the cool armor, OP weapon, and bonus stats just handed to them, and those people…should stick to mobile games that hold your hand for the first 10 minutes, telling you exactly what to press and prompting you to pay money when you get stuck.

  16. "They[progressives]'re the things that people need to escape from."
Truer words have never been spoken. The left declares, "The personal is political, and the political is personal." Of course no one wants to deal with them anymore, they're that guy who always has to bring up politics when you're just trying to veg with a good hack-n-slash.

  17. I forgot about last of us 2. I need to go play how far can Abby bounce. It’s when half way though a mission you jump her off the side of a building to she how high she bounces. It was the only thing I found enjoyable for half the game.

  18. Oh my god I forgot about Pitchford saying that epic would outpace valve technologically. Meanwhile, here I am waiting on my steamdeck so I can cringe at the terrible writing in GB games from my couch. In any case, take a broader look at mediums other than gaming and you'll see the same thing. Bunch of wokescolds blaming toxic fanbases because their agenda-driven adaptations of literature titans like Wheel of Time or Lord of the Rings are completely unequipped to compete with productions like Squid Game (incidentally created by a Korean man unencumbered by the woke shackles of the west).

  19. Sonic being about harmony with nature is just the western version of the plot. It's very literal. In japan it is a story about freedom vs control with eggman being an evil authoritarian, the world becomes a brighter and happier place when he's defeated. This is pretty evident if you just listen to sonic's adventure theme. Nothing about the environment in the song, just Sonic's moral code.

  20. The extreme left has hated the entire Soulsborne genre because it's one of the few where git gud is still an integral part of the genre. No player is equal and not everyone gets to finish it just because they want to. You have to work for it. Learn. Put in effort. This goes from learning the combat, the navigation all the way to the lore. Very little is just handed to you and they hate it.
