  1. Yup, this is their most unusual song, a good example of their versatility. Makes me laugh when people refer to them as a "heavy metal band". No, Black Sabbath was that. Zep was too diverse to be called anything, really.

  9. Zeppelin is the only band where all members are constantly in the top 5 for being the greatest on their respective instruments (including Plants voice). No other band can claim that. That’s why they will always be, the definitive Rock Band!
    Their songs and talents are unmatched. And they still influence today. Plus, there’s what I call ‘The Black Dog’ factor. If that song came out today, people would be like ‘Holy Shite, who the hell is that?’ Because their music is timeless!

    Nice job picking up the LOTR vibes, but you missed the most obvious reference. The whole song is full of subtle references to Lord of the Rings, but that line in particular is of no doubt.

    "The Queen of Light took her bow
    And then she turned to go" – Galadriel leaving Middle Earth

    "The Prince of Peace embraced the gloom
    And walked the night alone" – Aragorn walking the Paths of the Dead

    "The dark Lord rides in force tonight
    And time will tell us all" – most likely about The Battle of the Pelennor Fields

    "I hear the horses' thunder
    Down in the valley below
    I'm waiting for the angels of Avalon
    Waiting for the eastern glow" – most likely about the arrival of The Rohirrim at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields

    "The magic runes are writ in gold" – somewhat obviously the ring of power

    "The sunlight blinds his eye" – The eye of Sauron

    "Bring it back (repeated)" – this one is a bit more vague, but it could be Sauron's instructions to Gollum to find the ring and bring it back to Mordor

  14. The story of this song: apparently Jimmy was alone at “headly grange” on old English manor house in the country where the band lived while recording Zep VI. He picked up JPJ’s mandolin, having never played one, and wrote this incredible song.

  25. Sandy Denny sang with Fairport Convention. Zep very much into the Rings. The Misty Mountain Hop and especially Ramble On which has actual lyrics naming Gollum in the song.
    A recommendation for a special song from me to you: All of my Love, and have a great Thanksgiving.
