A Symphony for the Second World War

This is a musical tribute to all the men and women, who fought and fell on the battlefields of the Second World War.

This project started almost a year ago. It began like every work of mine by an inspiration. And here again, it was the music that fertilized beyond measure my imagination. In the beginning, the project’s scope was much smaller and less ambitious. I can’t believe now how big it finally grew. As if some upper force was driving me to ever higher creativity. I ended up totally submerged for months into the spirit of the Second World War, as if I was back in this time. At the end, I realized that my motivation for this work was not the admiration and approval of the public, the number of views, and however many thousands of likes I got, but my deep respect for our ancestors who fought in the most destructive war in human history. It was in these moments where I could feel their gratitude. Now that the work is done, I have the impression to have fulfilled an important purpose of my life. Like a soldier who returns home after the hard obtained victory, I feel exhausted, but serene and satisfied. Never experienced such a profound inner peace. I understand better now why the honoring of one’s ancestors was such an important thing in ancient societies.

Now, as always, this video contains footage and music that is copyrighted. I do not own any rights over them, and they belong solely to their respective owners. If the proprietors wish to remove their content from my video, I will have no other choice but to delete this upload. The owners shall simply contact me via my email address if this is the case. Also it is important to notice that this video will not be monetized.

Please also be aware that I am by no means glorifying the actions of controversial figures of the war with this video. One could for example gain the impression that I am exalting blindly the historical role of Stalin. This is not the case. I am fully aware of Stalin’s responsibility for the paranoid murder of millions of innocent lives. But on the other hand, his massive contribution for the salutary victory over Nazi-Germany can’t be dismissed. The Soviet Union paid the greatest toll in this global fight against fascism, and this had to be dully honored.

Lastly, I have to express here a remark on the authenticity of the footage. Most of the used film materials, although being originals of the time, are completely taken out of context. This is most obviously the case with the landing scenes, which are pictures from the Pacific War, and not from the West Front, as suggested in the video. This false attribution is a very widespread practice among documentaries and is motivated by the limited amount of footage for a given specific event. There is also a “false” statement in the video: in their conflict against Nazi-Germany, the United States landed not first in Italy, but in North Africa. But since the focus is put here on the European war theatre, it remains technically true.

I sincerely hope that this video opens the eyes of humanity to truth, goodness, and beauty.
