"A Singularity" (Re-imagined by Carina Round, from Existential Reckoning: Re-Wired) – Official Video

“A Singularity (Re-Imagined by Carina Round” from the Existential Reckoning: Re-Wired album (available March 31 via Puscifer Entertainment/Alchemy Recordings/BMG; Pre-order https://puscifer.lnk.to/ReWired). The footage was shot and compiled by Maynard James Keenan.

Maynard: “On Oct 7th, 2021, I lost my Muse. Deadly Little MiHo lost her 2 year battle with pancreatitis and kidney disease. We thought we lost her in late 2019, so I panicked and wrote her this song. We were certain she was done for. But we were blessed with a second chance and a bit more time. I rarely share things like this. Too painful. But this one can’t be kept bottled up. As I have mentioned before, she has been hiding in most of my vocal tracks since 2005. She was either in or near the vocal booth every time I tracked. Her sigh, her bark, sniffle, sneeze. Her jingling collar. Her squeaky toys. Usually poorly timed. Performance Credits: @PUSCIFER – V is for Vagina, Don’t Shoot the Messenger E.P., V is for Viagra remixes, C is for…E.P., Conditions of My Parole, All ReMixed Up, Donkey Punch the Night E.P., Money $hot, Money $hot Your ReLoad, Existential Reckoning, Existential Reckoning Rewired. @APERFECTCIRCLE – “By & Down” single, Eat the Elephant. @TOOLMUSIC – 10,000 Days, Fear Inoculum.”

Carina explains her approach to re-working the song: “Maynard’s vocal for this song is synonymously a sorrowful hymn and a siren of celebration. I wanted the main vocal and the bass and drums to be anchors in a sea of jubilant chaos. A kind of controlled cacophony of celebratory joy. Familiar, but a bit unnerving. The horns and saxes at the end are all moving together but somehow so loose, dispersing off into foam and then coming back together into one harmonious wave and then breaking off again, cascading. I feel excited when it’s over and like I want to get back on the ride. Birds, a charm of finches bookend the song. You can feel their energy. And within, there’s Maynard’s lone whistle, mimicking them. The one who keeps them alive and in turn draws his own life force. The synergy of composure and chaos in a dance reverence.”

Existential Reckoning: Re-Wired offers a track-for-track re-imagining of the 12 songs from Existential Reckoning. Puscifer band members Mitchell and Round, along with current touring musicians Greg Edwards (Failure, Autolux) and Gunnar Olsen reinterpret tracks from the prophetic, electro-laced record. The Academy Award-winning team of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross tackle “Apocalyptical” (Reznor has a co-writing credit with Maynard James Keenan and Mitchell on Puscifer’s 2009 song, “Potions”), Phantogram revamp “Postulous,” Drummer Sarah Jones and Bring Me The Horizon’s Jordan Fish tackle “”Theorem,” Queens of The Stone Age (and sometimes A Perfect Circle/Failure) guitar player Troy Van Leeuwen partners with his Gone is Gone bandmate, Tony Hajjar for “Grey Area,” while Tool’s Justin Chancellor and The Crystal Method’s Scott Kirkland join forces for “UPGrade.” Additional contributors include Juliette Commagere, who first appeared on Puscifer’s 2011 album Conditions of My Parole, keyboard player Alessandro Cortini (Nine Inch Nails), and BBC 1’s Daniel P. Carter.

  1. I love this… and yet it saddened me. There is no other bond like that, of man and dog. This video shows us an amazing love, one free of anything negative, an unconditional ❤.
It also reminded me of the song " There ain't no God for Dogs", by Milla Jovovich. I heard it, after I had heard "M" , is for Mission…. R.i.p Miho – love the name. Maynard a fan of Sin City?
    Amazing and touching tribute ❤

  3. We don't deserve dogs.. my dog Jake has been pulling me on my skateboard for 11 years, (jakeboarding) idk how I'm going to skate without him.. his hip has gone out and he can barely walk. I know it won't be much longer .. I don't know what I'm going to do without him 😪

  4. God, it hurts when we have to say goodbye to our babies. They are truly a gift most people don't deserve. How sad that some people will never experience the unconditional love of a dog. You were a good girl Miho. 💔

  5. Bless you MiHo and God Speed.
That’s so sad and heartbreaking and I am sorry for your loss you have me best wishes.
I have a little dog who is older and you inspired me to write a song for him before it’s his time.
I love him with all my heart and I have to do something before he travels on to commemorate him.
He has been the constant blessing in my life that has kept me together and I will miss him in the end.
I literally cry sometimes just looking at my little buddy because I love him so much and don’t want him to leave me but I know it’s unavoidable and i want it to be a pleasant celebration not a somber day of morning.
I will always remember my Buddy Rudy and I even have tears in my eyes as I write this I love him so much that’s why I have to remember not to take our time we have left for granted and do my best to give him the best last years of his life and to make the best memories I can because they will mean a lot in the end.
Thank you Maynard James Keenan you have helped me find a way to make a blessing out of my inevitable loss and to focus on something more positive then his passing.
You’ll never know what this means to me and I hope you know you have been with me in your music since I was a young man and you where a constant inspiration and I even named my cat I had years ago after you Maynard the cat.
Thank you and be will and you have given me a bit of peace.
    Cheers

  6. Thank you Maynard for writing this beautiful tribute for MiHo. I lost my pug Oct 10, 2022. Almost 18 years old and had him since he fit as a puppy in the palm of my hand I listen to this almost daily and think of him. This song helps me so much. Beautiful and expressive. Until we reunite with them 🖤🖤
