Initial Work: A year ago, they cleared trees by a pond for livestock and other purposes. This year, they focus on an area in the first 10 acres of their property.

Tree Removal: The plan includes removing trees between the driveways, including black cherry and cedar trees. Some of these trees will be used for firewood, while others will be saved for future construction projects.

Chestnut Trees: Chinese Chestnut trees are marked and preserved as part of the food forest for their nut production, which is beneficial for their pigs.

Safety Concerns: Trees near the carport are targeted for removal due to the risk of falling and causing damage, especially during high winds.

Weather Challenges: Work is interrupted by weather conditions, including high winds and a winter storm, which complicates the tree removal process.

Burning Process: The team encounters difficulties in burning the green wood, using methods like a leaf blower and a fan to aid in igniting the fire.

Safety Precautions: The workers exercise caution around low hanging power and phone lines and ensure the safety of their dogs during the process.

Progress and Strategy: Despite challenges, the team makes steady progress, strategically clearing around obstacles and managing the terrain.

  1. Wow, that's a big change!😳. Nate, can you post a before and an after photo, so we can see just how big the change is? Just curious, and would like to get a good perspective on the work they did

  2. Wow what an amazing view now. Getting ride of the evasive growth out of that area now and I can see a beautiful area of fruit trees maybe some hydrangeas spring bulbs, and fresh planted or seeded Grass with walking paths and maybe a bench to rest along the way. So many possibilities like a clean slate! 😊💜👍

  3. Oh Guys, I don't know how you deal with the comments.
Some never read anything before handing out their 2 cents worth.
Others, imposing their expectations on your dreams and plans as if they have a right to. Then the last one i read, putting the cart before the horse, finish one job before you start another.
Having never lived on the land like your are. It makes sense to me to have several different things happening at a time. When the weather prohibits outside work the house gets looked at. The weather again encouraged you to take another look at the outside to keep you all safe.
I loved looking back over 2023 with you. My gosh, you have accompished such a lot. Learnt new skills, challenged yourselves with working through most of it on your own. Yes, the budget comes into it, yet also the sense of achievement is amazing (as I and I am sure many others feel it for you).
You may tackle things awkwardly at first – it's a learning curve.
You may make the incorrect choice of planting or where to place the chook house or what ever. Yet there is not one farmer in the world that hasn't done the same thing.
Even if your followers don't agree with your choices, surely as grown adults (who would have made many a poor choice along the way), they could present their thoughts in a more respectful manner.
I love both your channels, and am in awe of what you get done.
Sending much love and encouragement along with a bucket full of patience.

  4. Black Cherry is Great for wood carving. My dad loved this wood. Cedar is one of my favorites wood. I've made many crafts with it
I would live to have a CEDAR LOG CABIN in the woods. You are very blessed to see a brand new view of the Smokie Mountains. We back in the 1970's camped with our 1971 SPORTSTER. Drove through. As you know a LOVELY PLACE. I've been able to watch your vlogs for years. You blessed many people helping them.
In N.C., traveling across the country looking for home. And now you're Home SWEET HOME. I am GREATFUL for you both and all your new and old dogs. YOU'RE a very special couple. You have a gift from GOD to be so compassionate and giving.
    Thank you for sharing.
The 25th was my birthday. See you next time. Love and PRAYING for you and your family your sons.

  5. Good job clearing the land Nate, looking good! Why not keep all that natural resource, potential fence post / building materials? Wood chips are essential for compost as well , so not a total loss .. in the future I would consider setting aside a number of any additional cuttings .. with the price of lumber being astrononical , an a wise self-effieicnt homesteader maximizes the resorces on hand. Lots of vids on spliting logs for posts etc .. Looking forward to seeing you and your sawmill in action!
