We jumped on the bandwagon of reacting to House of the Dragon as it comes out week by week and the debut episode was a good one returning us to Westeros in style and introducing us to a new a load of characters successfully. We get used to the blood and politics again following the disastrous ending to the Game of Thrones series

GRRM apparently told the show's producers about Aegon's dream/prophecy, and personally approved the dialogue that the King had with his daughter about this event. That would indicate its canon, even if it isnt written down yet… it also likely indicates that he didnt agree with the end of Season 8 either. (I presume you also saw the cats paw dagger the King was holding). Remember, GRRM has been highly involved with this show and its writing/plot.

GRRM does like to base his books on history, especially English history. Game of Thrones was based on the War of the Rose's but House of the Dragon is based on the Anarchy, a war of succession when Henry I named his daughter as his heir
The book is already finished, so I think the show will be good. I hope commenters are nice enough not to spoil everything.
