Motivate Yourself To Pray

By Rev Sylvester Opoku Manu

1 Samuel 30:6 “And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.”

Life is naturally full of ups and downs. The journey may not be perfect and smooth for you every time. Nonetheless, when the issues of life become difficult and you become discouraged, you must motivate yourself to pray.

The opening scripture says that David encouraged himself in the Lord when he found himself in a moment of great distress. Beloved in the Lord, it is time you motivated yourself to pray.

Here are three ways of motivating yourself to pray:

1. Consider the outcome of the lives of your leaders.
Hebrews 13:7 (CEB) “Remember your leaders who spoke God’s word to you. Imitate their faith as you consider the way their lives turned out.
When we hear the stories or testimonies of our fathers or leaders in the faith and we see what God has done for them, it becomes a source of motivation to pray. As you imitate their faith, you will be encouraged to pray.

2. See yourself as the deliverer of your family and pray.
Genesis 45:7 (NLT) “God has sent me here to keep you and your families alive so that you will become a great nation.”
Have the mindset that destinies are connected to you and for that matter failure to pray will cause destinies to perish. You have to realize that God has sent you to be the one to stand in the gap to intercede for your family. Like Joseph and Moses, you are a sent deliverer for your family.

3. See prayer as spiritual energy for your soul.
Luke 22:42 (NLT) “Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will, not mine. ” Then an angel from heaven appeared and strengthened him.”
Always be motivated that without prayer, your soul becomes weak allowing the devil to easily manipulate your life. Jesus prayed and an angel from heaven came to strengthen him. We must especially pray when we are becoming discouraged or anxious so that the peace of God will keep our hearts strong and fortified.

Precious one, there are moments in life that you may be discouraged to pray but be inspired by the results of others to pray and remember that your prayers will energize you and bless your family.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, let my inner man be quickened and motivated to pray, always, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
