7 Times You Screwed Your Entire Playthrough With a Single Decision at the Start

Usually when you screw up your playthrough it’s over the course of the whole game, either by poorly optimizing your character or putting all your points into charisma and then getting flattened by a hulking boss. Occasionally though you can screw the whole thing up with a single, poorly thought-out decision right near the beginning. Here are seven times we did exactly that, with irrevocable consequences. 1. FFX I unlocked Lulu's sphere and decided I wanted everyone to learn magic so moved them all into Lulu's sphere and got myself completely blocked and unable to progress past the thunder pains or lightning pains, whatever that place was called. Next area had a lot of enemies with magic resistance and none of my characters were physically strong enough to do much physical damage at all.

I grinded in the plains for a long time trying to get people back to their own sphere grid but eventually gave up. I never built up enough desire to start over so never finished the game.

  2. I’ll throw Corpse Party into the mix. If you do as the game tells you and refuse to read the newspaper at the beginning of Chapter 1, you cannot progress past Chapter 1 and will receive the same bad ending at the climax every single time.

    Also, loving the new aesthetic.

  3. Ah Phantom Liberty, one of the few DLC that will outright punish you for backing out of the DLC you paid for.

Seriously, there's several ways to cut the DLC short and the first one (the one in the video) is the biggest "well F&@$ you too" for backing out right after starting it.

  4. What about Saw 2 flesh and blood? At the very beginning, you play as some random guy who has to race across a room against a stranger and get to a elevator that only has enough room for one person before the walls and ceiling crush him. As it turns out, the stranger you're racing is the real main character of the game, Michael. So if the first guy gets to safety first, then Michael will die at the end of the game no matter what you do and the first guy will die soon after trying to attack Jigsaw.

  5. 03:30 Alternatively…. when a game starts up trying to trashtalk you for no reason, remember nobody is paying you to take abuse, that you haven't anything to prove to some stupid pixellated peon, and are entirely free to play something beautiful, insightful, funny, entertaining, educational, or at least pleasant, instead. You're not overcoming anything, you're not putting a flag anywhere, it's just abuse you're putting yourself through like a domestic violence victim that refuses to leave or testify against her abuser. Doing this to yourself is no more impressive than sticking your arm in a woodchipper.

  6. In Final Fantasy XII, there's a prison you're sent to in the early game. There's a chest there that if you open it, you lose the chance to later find another chest that contains the Zodiac Spear, the strongest weapon in the game.

  7. For cyberpunk, I thought they'd have mentioned the one unassuming convo with Johnny, which locks you out of the solo assult on Arasaka tower.

Seriously, just cause I didn't reply, "Nah, f*** that one up too."

  8. Oh, wow. Look, listen, I supported the move but deep in my heart I was afraid the new set would be worse and everyone would riot, but like… this is MUCH better. SO MUCH BETTER. WOW. Congrats guys, I love this so much, this is giving me hope.

  9. I'm sorry, but this background is a huge downgrade. It's great to try new backgrounds, but not only did the white background become very iconic to your brand, but this one is very generic and cluttered. Maybe if you used more bokeh on the background it would help to pop out the host, but at that point, why have the background?

It's your channel of course, but if it were me, I would go back to the white background.

  10. Not really 'screwed over the entire playthrough,' but in the original release of Final Fantasy 12 you can prevent yourself from easily getting the Zodiac Spear by opening 4 chests earlier in the game.

  11. Am i wrong for actually missing the white background? It was very distinctive of you guys. Even though I'm very happy that you are doing good enough to finally get slme bricks, I'm going to miss that empty room of nothingness.

  12. In Star Ocean: First Departure, there is an ending where two long separated siblings (Ioshua and Erys) get reunited, BUT if you recruit the first possible recruitable character (Cyuss), you lock yourself out of that ending. I was a bit miffed when I learned that after beating the game.
