5 Tragically Obscure Roguelikes that Deserve Your Time

You may call them Roguelites but I don’t care! I’m playing poorly to goad you into trying to do better.

  1. That first one sounds perfect for a series. It has a set mechanic to keep the runs a manageable length. And I must add that I am much disappointed with your thumbnail on this one.

  2. One roguelike i have been enjoying is one called Scourge Bringer
The name sounds like a mobile phone game name but it is actually pretty fun, it has fast paced melee combat with a bit of guns, kinda like Hyper Light Drifter, rhere isnt much item variety but its enough to be fun

  3. There’s this rogue like very funny and interesting called Spelunky? Have you tried it? Hahaha on a more serious note have you tried Returnal? I kinda want to try the PC version but I only seen gameplay of it. Also give streets of rogue a chance I think you’ll like it

  4. I'm pretty sure that Reciever 2 counts as a roguelike, but even if it doesn't, I still encourage you to check it out.

I've had my eye on power of ten for a while, and I think this may be the tipping point that gets me to actually try the game instead of just eyeing it from time to time.

  5. another really fun rougelike i dont see enough people talk about is "Going Under" where you are working for a startup company fighting other startups and everything has that "modern business" art style main gameplay gimmick is almost everything can be used as a weapon but weapons can break over time so you have to swap around often and sometimes make do with whatever nonsense a room will spawn with thankfully you do get some inventory space so you can save really powerful stuff for bosses and what not it and it has a surprising amount of story and little sidequest things to do for permanent upgrades

  6. You should try Hyperrogue. It’s a roguelike that takes place on a hyperbolic plane, which if you don’t know what that means, it’s basically a 2D surface that has negative curvature, the ingame tutorial explains it in detail. Anyway the game is definitely not for everyone because of the geometry nerd stuff, but luckily the game is free on itchio so there’s no risk to trying it out and seeing if you like it or not.

  7. Black Future 88 kind of, only slightly, reminds me of a rogue like I played a few years back called neurovoider not super in-depth but it was a nice rogue like not too difficult but not too easy either.

  8. Have you ever played "Monolith"? it's a "small" roguelike bullet hell where you control a spaceship and delve into the ruins of an old facility, and it's amazing, not only is the art gorgeous and the gameplay incredible, but the game is full of secrets, cool bosses and even mini-games, highly recommended. Only downside might be that the latter floors get insanely difficult xD

Ah, one more thing, aparently they are thinking about changing it's name to "Star of Providence" so if you take too long to check it this might be it's new name.
