2024 March LEGO Technic Space Sets – Designer Presentation (features & new parts)

At the Fan Media Days in Billund a few months ago, I had the opportunity to see all the details of three LEGO Technic space sets for March 2024. Two designers from the Technic team showed us all the features, details and new parts of the following sets:

42178 Surface Space Loader – €34.99
42180 Mars Exploration Rover – €149.99
42181 VTOL Heavy Cargo Spaceship LT81 – €99.99

  1. I never really cared about swooshing around with lego space ships but even as an adult I wanna pick that up and take off and retract the landing gear while seeing the cockpit stay balanced.

  2. I've never once wanted a Technic set until I saw the VTOL. It's just DRIPPING with playability and personality! The whole design was built around the swooshability, with the open top and the rear stabilizers being set apart so they don't get in the way of your arm. AI don't typically like the look of Technic, especially with the focus on real-world vehicles. These, however, have a certain charm to them that I wouldn't mind putting on display

  3. Hello my friend! Have you heard the rumours about the three upcoming F1 sets? I think they will be released on March, but when do you think we will have the first pics and official leaks?

  4. The theme is great and I already decided I will buy one of these models (I have a storage space problem so cannot buy them all). And I was pretty sure that 42180 (the big rover) is the one that I want (I have a thing for things with wheels anyway). Buuut, after seeing the video, I think 42181 (the VTOL spaceship) is cooler. I don't like it when sets have too many loose accessories and that seems to apply to most of the rover's mid upper part; the "remove piece to shorten rover" idea is also not something I personally like, maybe they could have hinged it somehow on the top so that the piece stays somehow attached to the rover even if you want to store it in "short-mode". Great content nonetheless, thanks!

  5. I think that the fact those sets do not mimic any existing vehicle allows LEGO and a user as well stay open minded and create freely. I mean buying a bulldozer and a motorbike sets you can also be creative, but here this starts at the very beginning.

  6. The Technic team absolutely crushed it! I normally don't pay much attention to majority of Technic sets, but all of these are grabbing my attention. It is interesting they are designed to be interacted with Minifigs – have we ever had that with Technic sets before?

  7. I'm going to buy this L.E.G.O. Technic set next year it sounds serene and futuristic in my viewpoint ! 🙂
저는 이 L.E.G.O를 사려고 합니다. 내년의 기술 세트는 내 눈에는 고요하고 미래 지향적인 것처럼 들립니다! 🙂

  8. I wonder why no explanation about the suspension of the space base truck. There's clearly a lot going on down there, with the linkages, but strangely enough, nothing was said about it.

  9. I really like this idea! One of the biggest problems with Technic has been the subthemes, or the lack there of. Sure, we've so far only had 2 subthemes: Generic & Licensed. Yawn…

Having couple of sets in 1 theme really adds to the playability and also collection aspects.
